Ever since Earvin Johnson III shanté’d down the Sunset Strip, the world has never been the same.
TMZ sat down with his dad, Magic (sadly mama Cookie was nowhere to be found), who discussed helping his son come out and what that shanté specifically meant for EJ.
As for the 20-year-old NYU student, EJ took to the Twitter to thank his parents for their support:
in the midst of all this media attention i would like to say that i am truly blessed to have parents that love and support me @magicjohnson
—EJ Johnson (@prince_ej) April 3, 2013
Magic also discussed some of the negative reactions to EJ from the African-American community, how he hopes his son’s bravery will inspire professional athletes to come out and how, as the owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, he would react to an openly gay player.
It’s all pretty Magic-al.

And that, ladies and gentleman, is what you call a FATHER.
It’s also what you call a secure and enlightened MAN.

Now if he could just tell him to stop wearing all those dead animals….

Hey, does anyone else remember the rumour that Magic Johnson is into transsexual hookers? It’s good of him to vocally support his LGBT family members, especially knowing that that rumour is out there.

Wow. I can only echo the others and affirm that this interview really is all kinds of awesome.

@InscrutableTed: I think that was a slight on the LGBT community and a way idiot homophobes could rationalize how he got HIV. Based on this interview, he wouldn’t care about any rumors. he’s above them.
