When Chuck Holmes founded adult film studio Falcon Entertainment, aka Falcon Studios, in 1971, gay porn was generally of poor quality. Holmes set high standards and began creating an empire, which continued to grow with the rise of VHS.
Documentary film “Seed Money: The Chuck Holmes Story” takes viewers inside the birth of Falcon Studios, its rise amid antigay laws and the subsequent philanthropic efforts of Holmes, who found his money more welcome than himself.

Holmes was a key figure in helping to build organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign and the LGBT Victory Fund with his large donations. He died in 2000 from liver failure, a complication from AIDS.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Some credit Holmes with helping legitimize gay and bisexual male desire. Falcon remains one of the major players in the industry and many of their main competitors, like Hot House Entertainment and Colt Studios, are run by former employees.
“Seed Money” was officially released last year and has played at a number of major gay film festivals, such as Inside Out and Outfest Los Angeles.

Many years ago, I shared a summer rental up at Guerneville, San Francisco’s answer to Fire Island (more Cherry Grove than the Pines), with Ron Pearson, an actor at Flacon. He was an extremely handsome and intelligent guy. He was also a great housemate and fun to be around. He could cook, pitched in with cleaning, told great stories, and was fair. He was very upfront with his part-time job (he also worked as a bagger at the local Safeway and was a full-time student). A nice guy you couldn’t hope to meet. Through him, I met a number of the Falcon models, some stuck up, but most were just nice, decent guys who could F**k like no one’s business. Great summer.
To Ron, wherever you are!

I met Chuck Holmes in the 70’s. He asked me if I wanted to be a porn star. I had to think about it, He told me to go home and measure my dick “Measure it from the top, not the bottom. If it isn’t at least 8 inches I can’t use you” he told me. I will never forget that line. He was close friends of a boyfriend of mine. I found him to be a blunt, honest and decent person.

Tim Kramer has always been one of the best looking men ever. What a beauty!

@MacAdvisor: and what does your comment have to do with anything accept bragging that you slept with porn stars?
Jack Meoff
@robho3: Glad somebody said it.

@robho3 and @Jack Meoff: why the hate? @MacAdvisor was just relating a story. sounds like both of you could be a little jealous.

I want to see this. Back then these guys were more then just Pornstars. They were real matinee idols to us.
I think Falcon was the first to make it mainstream and professional looking with very catchy porn music. Sometimes they dubbed in sounds from someone else too. Weird but seemed to be standard back then. He also had a vision for a look he wanted. Hairless, tan, and white calven Klein underwear clad models.

@robho3: It isn’t bragging when everyone had sex with everyone else. It was a time when bigotry and intense hatred was the birth canal around the explosion of the Gay Pride movement. Tens of tens of thousands of Gay men shed their self contempt, challenged their family and lived openly and proud in society. We also had sex with each other, as many of each other as time would permit. Our entire lives we were told we were sick and discussing. We responded by reveling in the pleasure of each other. So he reminisces a time of great struggle and great reward. If his fond memories sound like bragging to you then you have missed the meaning of his comment.

@MacAdvisor: Very cool story. I didn’t have all the porn star meetings you did, but I did by chance meet Tim Cramer on Hollywood Blvd and went for coffee. I didn’t know who he was that day until some time later I saw him in a porn flick.
I was asked to do films a few times but didn’t want my self on celluloid forever, doing porn, so I declined, though I would have loved it. I thought a future public life would be coming about and didn’t want any skeletons in the closet, which it did so I made the right decision.
Russian River area (Guerneville) is awesome.

Those early days of porn and Falcon were the best. Nasty, raw, and full of energy. My broke my porn virginity with falcon at the local bookstore in the late 70’s and it hasn’t really been the same since. Chuck Holmes was a force and those times were classic.
