Just in case you weren’t paying attention, President Obama is now super-on-board with marriage equality. He endorsed it in 2011 before the last election, he had the Justice Department submit an anti-DOMA amicus brief in 2013, and he even said that married gay couples are “America at its best” during his State of the Union.
And now he’s gone even further, by explaining his position to a YouTube personality, which is pretty much the most official proclamation a sitting president can make.
In a conversation with GloZell Green, a YouTube celebrity who is, like all YouTube celebrities, inexplicably popular, Obama made his position clear. “I’m hopeful the Supreme Court will come to the right decision,” he said. “My hope is they go ahead and recognize what a majority of people in America now recognize. Two people who love each other and treat each other with respect, and aren’t bothering anybody, why would the law treat them any differently?”
He also pointed out that his administration has done a lot to create a climate in which marriage equality is possible. “We’ve done a lot to push it along,” he said. “We argued against the Defense of Marriage Act,” which is no small thing. And although he didn’t mention it, they’ve also reformed immigration policy so that married non-resident spouses can stay in this country.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Considering that the last guy in the White House wanted to put a marriage ban in the U.S. Constitution, it’s pretty nice to hear the president talk this way. Now, hopefully the next guy (or gal) to get the job will be just as good.
Here’s the video:

I think the wrong video was linked. What was there was amusing though!

Here is the correct link with the video forwarded automatically to the part where she asks about same-sex marriage http://youtu.be/nQe7o_Gea-4?t=7m53s

So Obama sits down at length with GloZell Green but won’t meet with Netanyahu?! Guess we know where his priorities are (and they don’t seem to be in the best interests of our country). Come on, Obama, you’re not a “celebrity”(in the world of entertainment), you’re president of the United States!
Kieran
Thanks. Sometimes its good to be reminded why we made Barack Obama President of the US instead of John “bomb bomb bomb” MaCain or Mitt “Rockefeller Republican” Romney.
BBellairs
@manjoguy: It’s called protocol! The President does not meet with a Head of State when it is close to that person’s election. It would signify an endorsement. Please find out the facts before you start dissing the President. You may not like him, probably didn’t vote for him, but he IS the President.
Rob
“Just in case you weren’t paying attention, President Obama is now super-on-board with marriage equality.”
Just in case you weren’t paying attention, President YouBoob referred to being gay as a “lifestyle choice”. Lucky thing he’s got that “D” after his name so he gets a pass.
Rob
@BBellairs: Clinton met with Peres in 1996. Obama met with Merkel about two months before her election in 2009 and Obama video confrenced with Sarkozy less than a month before an election in 2012. So what’s the cutoff in this “protocol” (ie. excuse)?
demented
@manjoguy: He only became president because he wanted to be a celebrity. I wouldn’t be surprised if he got a reality show someday.
@Rob: Yeah, I noticed that too. How enlightened of him. How is he any better than all the politicians whom it’s “okay” to hate, making it sound like a clothing style?
Hermes
@manjoguy: Correct, he is the president of the United States – which means three things in regard to this “comment” – the first is that it is most important that he talk to the AMERICAN people who elected him about issues that matter to them, the second is that he not scuttle the negotiations that he is engaged in to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power. Considering that Netanyahu has been invited by the GOP specifically to attempt to scuttle those negotiations – as insane as that sounds – all analysts that have any gravitas in world affairs that I know of agree that if Obama also meets with him, that will be it, Iran will withdraw, which will mean either a nuclear armed Iran or our poor young people, boots on the ground in yet another mideast war. Finally, Israel is incredibly closely interlinked with the US, with many dual citizens who vote in both – I know many, my partner does not, but he could – he has the right of returning even though he is completely non-religious as a Jew – but we know a lot of people who do. Those people also voted for Obama twice by overwhelming margins. His meeting with Netanyahu would succeed at being an actual substantive endorsement whether he wanted it to be or not. I don’t see why there is any difficulty with any of this.
Hermes
@Rob: I don’t care what its called as long as we get equal rights. Do you REALLY care? Or are you even gay?
Rob
@Hermes: I don’t, but the liberals in Gay Inc. have spent years trying to convince everyone that it’s not a choice. One of their heroes they furiously masturbate to, after he pandered to them when he needed cash, just said it was. It’s amusing, no?
Rob
@Hermes: “Or are you even gay?”
Yup. Have a partner of 18 years as of this past Monday. No, I’m not a perpetual victim with daddy issues, desperately in need of validation by Uncle Sugar.
dlbtalk2me
Well the point has been made, people are talking. He could sit in the white house and do nothing, remember Regan and AIDS?
Rob
@dlbtalk2me: “remember Regan and AIDS?”
You mean the myth manufactured by those incensed at the idea that anyone suggested closing the bathhouses, wearing condoms and taking responsibility for their actions?
dlbtalk2me
No one in the beginning even wanted to address the problem. A gay cancer? We should all be willing to take responsibility for our actions…even the congress.

“whats her name” that ran for president could’t get a reality show and she tried

I believe all conservatives should read read this article and ask themselves where it is they fit in this issues before they spout that garbage.http://www.diffen.com/difference/Conservative_vs_Liberal

Can’t even make it to the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Heads of state and royalty will be on hand but the SCOAMF has dispatched the Treasury secretary. Too many dirty Jews and not enough golf, I suppose.

@Rob: Nothing but racism and hate on this website from people like you and others.
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
@Rob:
You may not have “daddy issues” but am thinking you definatley have some issues, and am thinking those issues too have issues………
Rob
@Cornellcw3: Sorry, are you projecting? I don’t speak moonbatshitcrazy.

@Hermes: “…I don’t see why there is any difficulty with any of this.”
It is if you are pathetically stupid and a moron!
Thanks for your thoughtful, educated, (always appreciated) RESEARCHED response.

Respect for the President? Pshaw! To Republicans, straight and gay (I’m disgusted to find there are so many here) he’s just the n—-r who stole the White House.

We’re all so thrilled that Obama has ‘come out’ so vehemently in favor of gay marriage. Wouldn’t it be nice if he or anyone else in the government addressed the fact that in terms of equal rights in employment, housing, public accommodation and education LGBT people are still not full citizens.
