To help announce his DOMA-killing Respect for Marriage Act, Rep. Jerry Nadler trumpeted out these two families: Dawn BarbouRoske and Jen BarbouRoske (a family whose parents have been together for 17 years) and, below, David Wilson, who with husband Rod Compton, have five children. Says Dawn: “I am not a single woman anymore. I am married. And I should have that recognized.”
Many of us know a Dawn. Or a David. These are the faces who, with 1996’s passage of the Defense of Marriage Act, became a class of people the United States of America actively oppresses. That can change.
(NB: Friend of the Gays Rep. Alcee Hastings is among the bill’s many co-sponsors.)

We are tax-payers. We are US Citizens. We are Americans.
So, why aren’t we being treated by our government as such?
