Can you believer it’s been 30 years since Cyndi Lauper recorded her ode to female exuberance, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”? To pay tribute, some of Broadway’s and New York’s greatest gurls — biological and otherwise — lip-synched for their lives while brandishing the titular footwear from Lauper’s Tony-nominated musical, Kinky Boots. Keep an eye out for Rosie O’Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg, Katie Couric, Kelly Ripa, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb as well as members from the casts of The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Annie, Chicago and more kicking their kinky heels up to the pop classic.

I am so glad that the wonderful movie has morphed into a hit Broadway show. Man-o-man, I do wish I could afford to get to NYC to see it for myself.
It’s all true,,,,,girls (and most boys) just wanna have fun.

That this quintessential piece of throwaway pop still sounds as good and feels as joyous after 30 years is a tribute to the talent of Cyndi Lauper. I hope she sweeps the Tonys on Sunday. Can’t wait to see a number from the show. Looking forward also to another Neil Patrick Harris triumph as host.
