We knew things on Chelsea Lately would be hella gay once Ross Matthews took over hosting duties for the night, but we never expected it to be this gay.
Guest host Matthews had the pleasure of interviewing Mark-Paul Gosselaar (read: Zack Morris) and his Franklin & Bash costar Breckin Meyer on last night’s show, but the pleasure was all MPG’s, apparently. The conversation took a sticky turn when MPG reminded Matthews of an old interview he gave Howard Stern, in which he named Justin Timberlake and Zack Morris as men who influenced him in childhood, or as MPG explained, “another way of saying who you masturbated to.”
Following a stunned reaction from the audience, MPG gave an excited fist pump and screamed “Yes! Ross masturbates to me!” Huzzah! Why can’t all straight men react this way?
So naturally, we’re dying to know: Who “influenced” you when you were younger?
Cagnazzo82
Ugh, god. Can we as gay people not control ourselves?
This is kind of a condescending interview is it not? Imagine having a some male host sitting in front of two hot actresses and going on and on about enjoying seeing them naked and with their shirts off and hoping they get naked after the interview.
I mean seriously, get a hold of yourself. Is Ross really that c*ck-starved? To be embarrassing us like that?
Jackhoffsky
no we can’t.
and you know why? because we are MEN before we are GAY.
so for every straight guy that met Farrah Faucet in person, or had a Heather Thomas poster signed… for every hetero that talked to Kathy Ireland or Cindy Crawford and admitted their “influence” on them, from the Hooters girls calenders, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, and Sports Illustrated cover model that has to sit there and sign autographs to men who admit how much they have been “influenced” by these ladies…
I think it’s okay if gay men sometimes… i don’t know… ACT LIKE MEN.
I am NOT arguing that it’s appropriate in any way… in fact it’s kind of creepy, but it is by no means a “gay” thing.
Cagnazzo82
@Jackhoffsky: Oh, I have absolutely no probably declaring/appreciating men who are sexy. Am I not a red-blooded American?
That being said, the point I was making is that a straight interviewer would never get away objectifying a sexy actress the way Ross is doing with these two guys.
Cagnazzo82
There’s a typo in my previous comment.
I meant I have absolutely no probl*EM* appreciating sexy men.
Lol, can’t edit comments on here.
niles
why do gay “men” like this ross person have to be a total embarrassment in the media?
MikeE
@niles: Why do gay “men” like this Niles person have to be a total embarrassment on forums?
Jackhoffsky
first off, let me clarify that i personally do no like Ross. I personally feel he is making “gay” a commercial commodity whether it’s here or on Jay Leno. He is a character that people tune into see because he’s “a gay” and funny. There is just this… “minstrel show” vibe that irks me.
Second, in this particular clip, i found him within the bounds of whatever would be normal should someone like Pamela Anderson be interviewed by someone like Howard Stern. he was still within the limitations of “cheeky” with two people who are knowingly gay friendly… which is okay… BUT, I still get irked…
… because i’m weird like that.
Jackhoffsky
correction: i personally do not like Ross.

Nice to see the “Controlls” on Queerty are trying too hard again….
Triple S
Oh, get over Ross. Sure he speaks in that…way. But that doesn’t mean that everyone suddenly thinks that we ALL talk like that. Huge numbers of gay men talk from a range of extremely effeminately to as manly as they come. I sit around the mid way mark where you can pick it up after about five minutes, but it’s not like Ross’ way of speaking, I’ll put it that way. Regardless, I don’t get some gay men’s adversity to other gay guys who talk too effeminately for them. It’s just talking isn’t it?
Oh, and to answer Queerty’s question; I just stick to porn (Like any 18 year old does), so I don’t know the names 😛
hamoboy
I think what saved it from being inappropriate was that the two interviewees were making it sort of like a competition to see who was more popular/attractive, and MPG both brought up that anecdote and celebrated it.
If it had been Ross bringing up all of that while the two of them sat there smiling sheepishly and looking uncomfortable, THAT would have been inappropriate.
Kevin
@niles: Why are some masc ‘men’ so offended by the flamboyant? Just because Ross is comfortable being himself doesn’t mean you have to hate on him. Ross is not an embarrassment to the gay community. Its the flamboyant who have generally won us all the rights we have. The masc guys have always sat at home hiding, shaking their heads at those who actually have to face discrimination on a daily basis.
This is the type of interview Chelsea would do, she is always vulgar and talking about sex. Its not like Ross did this interview on the Tonight Show. Looks like he did a great job filling Chelsea’s shoes.
NateB79
@Kevin: This pretty much sums it up and ends this “issue”. Lighten up, it’s a vulgar show, and he did that.

I don’t have to imagine it. This happens all the time! Have you ever watched Letterman interview a young starlet in a skimpy dress. He does everything short of finger-bang her, and you know he’d do that if he could. Then there’s Ellen who ogles MEN on her show. When Mario Lopez was on she “forced” him to pull down his pants and reveal his underwear, much to the delight of her mostly female studio audience. OMG, she treated him like a piece of meat!!
I think your internalized homophobia is showing. Get some help.

Ya. Right. Here’s one of many compilations of David Letterman salivating over lovely, young woman on his show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSjX8FT6oc8

@ Kevin ….Thank you so much for your comment. I couldn’t agree more. No one ever stands up for us fem-guys.
I really like Ross and I think he did a great job. He is just a fun loving person who really seems to enjoy what he does for a living.
I have always said that the self-hating in our gay community has to be resolved first before we can hope for more change.
Come on folks this goes with saying but there are gay people being killed just for being gay everyday. Why do we continue to put eachother down? lets stop fighting with eachother jesus!
Polaro
Remind me not to party with some of you Debby Downers. Lighten up already.
Gigi Gee
@Polaro: 😀
Niall
Is there any reason why you didn’t just refer to him as his actual name instead of the character he portrayed?
mbraet
Mark Paul is one insanely hot man. I can look at him all day.

Secure individuals can handle Ross’s gayness…

@Cagnazzo82: MPG didn’t appear to mind being objectified.@Jackhoffsky: I grew up in the days when “gay liberation” was about the freedom to be ourselves and be accepted for who we are, who and whatever that is. Many straight people are coming around to that. Now it seems like the “heteronormative” gays are becoming the oppressive ones, telling us that we all have to be pro athletes, get married, have kids and look and act as much like straight people as possible. Remember that it was the queens who were literally fighting in the streets for us while the “straighter than straight” gays were still hiding in the closet. Learn a little history and have some respect.
