Buy some ice skates…hell has frozen over. The hate-mongering organization known as Westboro Baptist Church has come out of the closet with its disapproval of the antigay Rowan county clerk Kim Davis. Divorce and remarriage are no-nos in Westboro’s eyes, and it has armed itself with the bible passage that proves it, reports Deep South Daily. Since Davis’s four walks down the aisle are the result of her three divorces, she has become one of the church’s prime targets. The church is even calling for her resignation. Clutch the pearls!
Stating, “If Kim Davis has any real fear of God she’ll resign and move out of the house from the man she lives w/ in adultery,” the organization has been quite active on social media expressing its disdain for the jailed Rowan County Clerk. In addition to its binge tweeting, the church has also been circulating photoshopped images of Davis with the captions, “INCONVENIENT TRUTH: GOD HATES DIVORCE” and “DIVORCE + REMARRIAGE = ADULTERY.” Here are some of the gems that have been posted on the WBCSaysRepent Twitter account:
We saw your letter, #KimDavis. Here's our open letter to you —#stopyouradultery!#honoryouroath!#repentorperish!
— Westboro Baptist (@WBCSaysRepent) September 6, 2015
What if a clerk denied #KimDavis a license for her 2nd/3rd/4th marriage because Christ calls it adultery?
— Westboro Baptist (@WBCSaysRepent) September 4, 2015
KY clerk Kim Davis would NOT feel at home at Westboro Baptist. She a fake (hence her 3 husbands!), @MattMurph24 >> http://t.co/lKtgZuCmol
— Westboro Baptist (@WBCSaysRepent) September 3, 2015
#KimDavis violated her oath of office! The same type of pervs outlawed our legitimate 1st Amend rights! #GodH8sEmAll https://t.co/XamDiTEq4p
— Westboro Baptist (@WBCSaysRepent) September 3, 2015
It’s interesting that the organization would take the stance that Davis violated her oath since part of said oath is issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Could this be a kindler, gentler Westboro Baptist Church? Should we invite the members of its congregation out to a celebratory meal at Chick-fil-A?
Alas, don’t go breaking out the champagne just yet. While it might look like Westboro has suddenly jumped over to the same side of the fence as the LGBT community, they are still very much against marriage equality. Even though the church perceives Davis as an adulterous, sinful county clerk who has not done her job, the organization somehow feels that she is partially responsible for what they call “fag marriage.” Perhaps the people over at Westboro don’t fully comprehend that Kim Davis doesn’t believe in same-sex marriage either, and she’s in jail for refusing to issue licenses for those very marriages.
Flawed ideology, but it’s still nice to have a fraction of support from Westboro Baptist Church. Enjoy the moment because it will probably never happen again.
They are not just against marriage equality, they are against our very existence. They attack everyone and try to make enemies with everyone. We’re not getting support for them. Don’t misread into their intentions.
WBC has not and will never “side with the LGBT community”. They just find her an equal sinner to us.
Richard Grant Muir
Well, that’s going to make us look WORSE.
Is that supposed to be a surprise?
With WBC it’s the publicity that counts. If they simply sided with Davis who would care, it’s expected. By opposing her they get their publicity. By the way the headline is idiotic and totally misleading, in no way is WBC siding with us!
Dennis C. McGrath
Hell freezes over. Film at 11.
The case in same sex marriage is sealed. The Supreme court ruled on the matter. Thus, the Federal court judge did what was right. She was in contempt of the court period. Now if she did not want to do her job-she should have quit. That is her choice. To issue marriage license is not “her choice” but her duty per her elected job. (All facebook friends request are accepted)
the people at Westboro know full well where Mrs. Davis stands on same-sex marriage and that is not her beef with her. They believe as do many religions that divorce and remarrying is adultery and against God. This has nothing to do with her same-sex stance.
The WBC makes their money by provoking fistfights then settling out of court. Their existence revolves around a fantasy where everyone hates them and that proves they must be right. They can’t even keep their own within the fold–they’ve pushed out the entire Phelps family for one thing and they excommunicated old Fred from his own chosen few, locking him up, isolating him from his pulpit and family, and leaving the old windbag to die alone. If hell really was going to freeze over because of this band of psychopaths, it would have paid attention to Fred’s excommunication, not this narcissistic woman.
Color me surprised. Does that “church” (and I have trouble using that term), know of this broads background? ie: 4 failed marriages, children born from adultery, etc. If she thinks my lifestyle is so wrong, she needs to look closer to home! People in glass houses should not throw stones. Lock her away, until she complies with the courts, and does the job she was elected to, and swore (yes, swore to the Lord) to perform. She gets no pity from me. And please do not spout the crap that she found God and has been redeemed. I have known people in my life that has turned their life around due to religion, and for them I am happy. However, these same individuals that were the major bread winners for their families, were pressured into leaving their excellent wage jobs at this huge restaurant, as the restaurant served liquor, a sin in the eyes of the Pentecosts. Now these individuals did not ask, or sue the establishment to NOT serve liquor, they simply quietly bowed out. And, by the way, at a major loss of income for the family unit. However, the Church in which they prayed in, to make extra money baked pies to sell. Guess who was the largest customer? Yes, the restaurant in my mention. Now how is this different? Is the money somehow cleansed since it passes through the Pastor’s hands? I think not.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend?
Taking her cues directly from the White House, Davis is yet another regrettably elected Democrat who believes the law is hers to ignore or enforce as she pleases, all while believing she’s above its repercussions.
Keep electing those liberals, folks—they know better than anyone what’s good for you!
if westboro is against you, you must be one hell of a sinner
Westboro sucks. God doesn’t hate anyone.
I don’t want to malign the Baptists, but aren’t they against everything, including having fun and being happy?
No, they most absolutely DID not side with the LGBT community. Believe me, they hate everyone equally. They believe that any and all sin is an abomination and hate equally. I am pretty sure that they posted that they still hate us after they posted about hating her. Trust me, I have met these people on numerous occasions. They will never side with anyone but themselves.
Hell has froze over, however, Westboro is not siding with the LGBT Community by all means. They are still very much GAY HATERS, will continue to be and are no way on OUR side. They are simply against Kim Davis and her multiple walks down the aisle and adultery.
I’ll elect a Democrat any day of the week over a Conservative hating Republican. I don’t trust them, never will.
@BJ McFrisky: More nonsense flowing out of his mouth. Davis is not a real democrat. And Governor Steve Beshear told her to get with the program and issue licenses. And that’s funny… coming from you. Republicans ignore the law, shut down the government and do all sorts of stupid things… without think there aren’t any real repercussions.
Yes, keep voting republican… see what good comes from that. A record number of criminal convictions is the result. In fact more republicans end up behind bars than democrats… perhaps twenty times more.
Davis is taking cues directly from the Republican party who have time and time again called for people to ignore the Supreme Court ruling. Last I checked, Obama went to the Supreme Court to ask for validation on Obamacare and he won every legal battle. Kim Davis has NOT.
Keep voting for the republican party. They always know what is good. Businesses are people and your vote doesn’t count for shit.
@Giancarlo85: *Correction: Without thinking about the real repercussions.
Republicans waste time, waste money on grandiose military projects (like adding an unnecessary second engine on the already bloated F-35), and don’t ever address the real issues. Republicans are fixated on Obamacare, gay people getting married and abortion. They never talk about economic issues, international problems or infrastructure. They don’t give a shit. It’s all a political power game.
WBC is a consistent group of bigots. They are strict in their interpretation of what they refer to as scripture. It is clear that Ms. Davis is an adulteress according to Christian scripture because of her remarriages. In addition Christian scripture would condemn Kim for her claims she is forgiven. The Christian scriptures say one must be sincere in their repentance and of course we have no way of knowing she is truly repentant. In addition it is the sin of price and hypocrisy to stand up in public and announce you are forgiven.
Todd Hef Klein
Hey, WBC! Davis has stated that she has ‘repented and given her life to Christ, and that she has been forgiven for past behaviors.’ Aren’t repenting and asking for and receiving forgiveness a central theme of Christianity? For pete’s sake, WBC, follow your own tenets!
Another erroneous Queerty headline.
P.S. Kim Davis is NOT the issue. The issue is a religious group putting its beliefs and interests above the Constitutional rights of ALL Americans, and I’m not just talking about gay marriage.
birds of a feather
How dare you suggest that this hate filled organisation that support the killing of homosexuals is ‘siding with the LGBTI’ community. What you are saying is incorrect and hugely offensive to a lot of us. They are against Davis’ so-called adulterous behaviour, they are not against her refusing to give gay couples mariage licences. As such they are NOT siding with us. They are still homophobic and hate the LGBTI community, and to suggest otherwise is crass and offensive. Please retract that headline or at leats apologise for it
Who would have read about it had they chose the expected response. Now current on westboro priggery 2015.
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
Gotta respect their consistency, if nothing else. Rare quality for “Christians”
@NJjoe: Let me get this straight:
You don’t trust the elected Republican clerks who HAVEN’T had any problem issuing gay marriage licenses, but you trust Kim Davis, the Democrat who HAS?
Gotta love that liberal logic.
They were going wade in anyway. They just thought they’d surprise us and keep it fresh
Fuck them both!
Who ARE you people and WHAT have you done with the Westboror Baptist Church?
Hmmm, not really.
That’s so awsome! Westboro and this idiot Kim are both tumors on their political party they cannot get rid of…just say “Kim davis” and she is automatically placed on the other side of the fence..I love it!!
@BJ McFrisky: You refused to answer my post like a typical dimwit. Kim Davis isn’t a liberal nor a real democrat. And republicans are mainly the ones saying people need to defy the Supreme Court. And most of the clerks who have put up a fuss are republican. Facts are facts.
please don’t say things like they side with us. they’re just not her side. In this instance the enemy of my enemy is NOT my friend.
Davis got three civil divorce decrees. The court did that and her church, if any she had at the time, had nothing to do with it. A marriage license is a civil right and not a religious one, just like dissolution of marriage. This is so clear that even ministers must intone “By the power vested in me by the State (or Commonealth) of . . . .” Davis enjoyed the benefits of civil law surely enough when it came to her divorces, but in trying to prevent others from enjoying the civil right of a marriage license then, irrespective of her religiosity, THAT is what’s wrong with her position.
Tony Lee Churchill
I wouldn’t go that far.
Why are such nut jobs allowed to exist?
J Howell Burger
They absolutely have not “sided” with the LGBT community. They blamed it on her and tossed her into the pit with us! Your pseudo news site sucks you need to check your facts!!!!
Queerty, Really!? Your editing dept really thinks this is a real story!? come on now!
When even those fools wont touch her??? Bahaha
Personally I don’t give a shyt where the opposition to Kim Davis comes from. She is a fake, self serving witch. Her manufactured crisis of conscience is utter bullshit as her reasonable option was to resign. When fool nitwits like loser Mike Huckabee strain logic to support this fraud you can see exposed that this is a strategic move. To follow this silliness to the end a prison official who doesn’t believe in the death penalty can refuse to pull the switch…..that is far mode substantial than this mess. God clearly says, more clearly than he speaks on gays, that thou shall not kill. There is no qualifying language.
@Xzamilio: The oldest bat in the universe? Hell no, you fuck him LOL
@Craig Christley: Perhaps it was a magnetic reaction, two shits (Davis/Westboro)
plus one Queerty editor and Voilà a tawdry article. LOL
The Westboro Baptist Church can go fuck itself.
I wouldn’t say they “sided with the LGBT community”… they only condemned another person. They didn’t say kim should grant licenses to gay people
Why pay them any attention? All you do by giving them all this attention is help their audience find them. Stop it.
The WBC is at least consistent. The Phelps clan has always been consistent. Let’s admire their consistency at the very least.
What has happened to the Democratic Party?
First, Queerty repeatedly reports on the actions of Democrat Kim Davis who seems incapable of fulfilling her taxpayer funded $80,000 position as a Democratic elected official. (Naturally, Queerty fails to identify and inform their readers in every post that Davis is an elected Democratic official.)
Now, Queerty makes the grand, illogical leap that the “Westboro Baptist Church sides with the LGBT community.” Fred Phelps, the founder of the Westboro Baptist Church, ran as a Democrat five different times in the Democratic primaries. Phelps publicly supported Al Gore and Bill Clinton.
Of course, would Queerty be ethical enough to report an unbiased story? After all their moniker is, “Free of an Agenda. Except that Gay One.”
@Alistair Wiseman: The Alistair Perpetual Bullshit artist is back at it. In FULL FORCE.
First, Kim Davis has received extensive backing from the republican party including Mike Huckabee. Someone who is personally backing her. Kim Davis also uses a right wing lawfirm that has given her really poor legal advice, but they are using her to peddle an agenda.
Republicans have been totally incapable as lawmakers and continue to vote for salary increases in the House of Representatives. This is even with a 10% approval rating. The House would dream of even having a 50% approval rating which the executive has (roughly).
Fred Phelps was once a prominent civil rights lawyer… but something happened to him. Perhaps dementia.
This can happen with age unfortunately.
The republican party is backed by rabid anti-gay interests and has been for decades since the Reagan era. Take a look at the facts, alistair. Before you shove your foot further into your mouth.
I’ll go over this more simply for Alistair…
Democratic Governor Steve Beshear told Kim Davis to drop the opposition and issue marriage licenses as required by the law. Beshear, lukewarm on same sex marriage, sees the writing on the wall.
Who in the state of Kentucky are railing against same sex marriage?
The fucking republiturds! What a surprise!
The republiturd candidate for Governor in Kentucky (as Beshear steps down as he is limited to two terms) Matt Bevin once likened same sex marriage to child-parent marriage.
This is Alistair’s party afterall!
You have not refuted anything that I have posted.
You stated, “Fred Phelps was once a prominent civil rights lawyer…”. You forgot to add that he was disbarred in 1979.
Phelps supported Al Gore in the 1988 Democratic Party presidential primary election because when Gore ran for the 1984 Senate race, Gore opposed a “gay bill of rights” saying homosexuality was not something that “society should affirm.”
@Alistair Wiseman: I said he WAS ONCE a prominent civil rights lawyer, until he lost his mind.
As far as the 1980s, Gore was lukewarm in his opposition, the republican party was DEEPLY OPPOSED to gay people and wanted to affirm homosexuality as a crime. Those were the Reagan years. I refuted everything. You are trying to say democrats are more anti-gay than republicans. You are full of shit in every respect.
Gore was pro-gay marriage before Joe Biden.
He spoke out in favor of same sex marriage in 2008!
Seriously man… don’t quit your day job. Gore changed his mind before Obama and Biden ever did. Wrong person to attack really in your typical anti-democrat tirades.
I could give two shits less if Phelps supported him over 25 years ago.
Wow , wow, wow.
And I’ll support Gore, Biden and Obama before I support your rabidly anti-gay, social conservative bullshit party. Any day, any time!
You are trying desperately to paint some democrats as anti-gay… you are a miserable failure. Republicans are far more anti-gay. A vast majority of democrats (75-80% supportive depending on the poll) support same sex marriage. A vast majority of republicans are against it (Roughly 70% opposed).
Clayton Timothy Dana
You don’t say!
Once again, you have not refuted anything that I have posted.
It illustrates the old probverb “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. At least for this one instant in time.
Here a quack, there a quack. Everywhere a quack quack!! Wasted Space.!!
Now I don’t know if I wanna be gay anymore! Oh wait..
@Alistair Wiseman: oh yes I did. You are just too stupid and ignorant to realize it.
The Wiseguy Bizarre Crazies are against Kim Davis apparently because divorce and re-marriage is worse that being gay.
TOTAL NUT JOBS!
See, I would not elect a Republican. As Huckabee has demonstrated, break the law based on your religious belief. Cruz is following suit. These are men you want in the White House? I rest my case.
