In an annual memo (PDF) to board members, HRC chief Joe Solmonese rattles off a number of accomplishments in the gay rights arena from 2009. Some of them HRC was involved with; others it was completely, and willfully, absent. But what the memo — there to tell brush up HRC’s steering committee on the past, present, and future — does not do, at all, is layout what HRC will do differently in 2010. Because surely, if Solmonese & Co. read that same list of 2009’s “accomplishments,” they saw the same glaring gaps that we did. And yet there’s no indication there will be anything close to a strategic shift to secure federal LGBT rights.

HRC has spent $513 million dollars since they began.
They still don’t have a strategy to obtain our equality.
They exist to raise money for their salaries and expensive lobbyists – yet we have NEVER passed a single LGBT Bill. At some point, enough is enough.
Lacking a strategy and any real results for 25 years – plus spending a half a billion dollars – it is fair to ask if they still have a purpose?
Unless HRC can produce a Strategy and Plan for LGBT Equality – we should use our resources for other efforts.

The HRC does nothing of value anymore. All they want is money.

The worst thing about HRC isn’t Joe Solmonese’s $350,000 salary and $100,000 expense account. It’s the fact that they try to take credit (in this Memo) for a bunch of things they had NOTHING to do with. In fact, it’s hard to find anything that HRC actually did.
I agree – let’s stop funding HRC. We can do much better.

Why would Joe want to change anything? His checks are still clearing.

HRC is not fighting for change because their biggest funders are the very corporations and men who work for said corporations who fight against change. They endorsed Joe Lieberman and many other “centrist” obstructionists over the years. It’s time for our community to unite and push back.

Equality Across America is replacing HRC and Gay Inc.
Sign up. We’ll provide the guidance. We are currently organizing in all 435 Congressional Districts and will be lobbying these politicians. We demand equal rights under all federal laws.
This is the job everyone thought HRC was doing. We need to do it ourselves. Get on board, NOW.

Okay Equality Across America, but do you have the budget or pull as the HRC?
You can’t replace them if no one knows you exist.
Not trying to hate, just being real.

I’m all for keeping the pressure on HRC to deliver. But I’m not for cheap shots and high school level hypocrisy. Not one single HRC hater on this blog has ever done squat for my rights aside from bitch on web sites, from what I can tell. Sorry, but its true.

@ Lady Ga-Gasp:
What has HRC done? After +$500 million? What?

The gay-mobile is so wonderful! Rahm in the the driver’s seat, Joe in the passenger seat, and Commander Fucktard in the backseat! The only problem is the decision to run over all the gay vets and families and head at a giant wall in 2010 traveling 90 mph. No time to slow down!
