Making good on an earlier promise, the Human Rights Campaign is giving away $150,000 — to match Target’s cash and in-kind services donation to MN Forward — to Tom Emmer-attack PAC WIN Minnesota ($100,000); OutFront Minnesota ($20,000); and to pro-LGBT candidates including Mark Dayton ($30,000). It should be quite the scene in Minnesota this weekend, as HRC chief Joe Somonese addresses the HRC Twin Cities fundraising dinner, where Dayton will appear. I guess this is the definition of a non-knee jerk reaction?

Who’s HRC Giving $150,000? (Surprise: This Time It’s Not The DNC!)

Mark Dayton is a Democrat, who they are funding, and Tom Emmer is a Republican (they are funding groups opposing him).
The DNC will take that funding into account and adjust how it allocates resources, so the amount each candidate gets will be about the same as it would be if HRC simply made a contribution to the DNC.
From a practical standpoint, it just doesn’t make any difference.

Have the HRC checks cleared the bank yet? That’s the point at which one can really count a donation from them–as opposed to their ‘promises’ and ‘pledges’, which campaign finance folksof any experience know mean nothing.
Oh, unless it’s a totally safe, non-competitive race and HRC wants the elected official to show up at a cocktail party. Those checks always arrive.

There’s no snarky, inordinately cynical tone to this article. I read the story, but you didn’t tell me how I’m supposed to feel about it. Queerty, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FEEL ABOUT THIS NEWS?!

HRC wastes $50 million a year. Way to go, Joe.

Thats great news!
Lets not loose sight of the real issue here folks: Target made a mistake and tried to buy our elections.
I’m glad HRC made good on its promise to donate to the pro-equality candidates in MN. Someone had to do it!
