It only took a tweet with a pic of his package to bring down the inopportunely named Rep. Anthony Weiner (D.-Sleaze). But the right-wing blogger and provocateur who leaked the image in the first place saw his star rise in direct relation to Weiner’s fall. Andrew Breitbart, the founder of BigGovernment.com, is now on full-time Weiner patrol, and he’s spending a lot of time looking into Weiner’s crotch.
Breitbart says that he is publicizing Weiner’s shenanigans “to save his family.” He also says he has plenty more photos of Weiner, but “we will not be releasing all of the material because some of it is of an extreme, graphic nature.” Somehow, we imagine that, one way or another, those photos will somehow find themselves online soon enough. Whatever happens, Breitbart will be able to claim another liberal scalp, just as he did when he helped bring down ACORN in 2009.
Breitbart began his blogging career, in his own words, as “Matt Drudge’s bitch,” a title for which there is probably not much competition. After graduating from the Drudge Report, he launched his own website, which has spawned five other satellite sites covering everything from Hollywood to foreign affairs. The sites are a right-wing wet dream, with conspiracy theories, attacks on the mainstream media and rants on the perfidy of liberals.
Breitbart displays standard-order disdain for gay activitists, but he isn’t the reflexive gay basher that many of his readers likely are. He’s a member of the advisory council of GOProud, the gay conservative Republican group (kind of the platypus of organizations—unlikely in theory, but still, it exists). At the Conservative Politcal Action Conference, the big right-wing jamboree, this year, Breitbart announced that he was throwing “a big ‘ol gay party,” so that he could “indulge in my all ’80s Depeche Mode, Cure, New Order fetish.”

And yes, we know what you’re thinking. Breitbart says he has “a ton of wonderful gay friends – even ones ‘married’ and with children… I’m – as the MTV generation says – ‘gay-friendly.’” (The quotation marks around married are a nice touch, though.) But gay, he is not. He’s married with four children. Get that? He has even managed to make sport of speculation about his own orientation. On two of his websites, the suggestion has been addressed head on, to be denied. One contributor even posted an article that started with the premise that Breitbart sounds gay when he talks. Somehow that devolved into an attack on “leftwing gay politicos” (and you know who you are).

Don’t blame Breitbart because Weiner acted like a fool. If Weiner had acted in an appropriate manner than there would be nothing for Breitbart to do.
When you belittle gay supporters, as this writer admits Breitbart is, than don’t be surprised when they stop supporting. It’s similar to saying “thanks for the paying for dinner you right-wing asshole. Same time next week?”

Everyone who reflexively blamed Andrew Breitbart for this story last week (and assumed that he had set up WEINER) is just a plain fool. Even partisan hack Chris Matthews acknowledges (for about a year now) that the media and leftist meme about Breitbart lying is just an attempt to discredit someone who is CLEARLY telling the truth and exposing liberals. The institutional left isn’t accustomed to someone like Breitbart with the resources and platform to DESTROY THEM.

Breitbart didn’t say he exposed Weiner’s incredibly dishonest behavior because he wanted to save his family. He said he saw no need to release the more awful and graphic pictures because he was trying to preserve a family, and saw no reason to go for the jugular.
Frankly, Breitbart is not the enemy. He’s a journalist. I realize that he’s been demonized, and many refuse to accept that, but he’s just a journalist. His harsh detractors can’t name any lies he told, often blaming him for things he didn’t actually say, or overreactions people had to things he said that were true, or simply assumptions.
We need journalists on the hunt for Republican problems, and the same for Democrats.
Weiner was sending these images from his office, so he was on my dime. He used a government blackberry. If I used my work phone to pick up random women I met on facebook, I would lose my job at best. If I used my staff to help cover it up, I could face more serious problems. He was lying, and even used his staff to assert a serious crime happened. Weiner repeatedly used the term ‘victim’ to describe himself, suggesting Breitbart was part of a conspiracy.
When you think about it, Breitbart was really classy to not show the X rated photos. Don’t shoot the messenger. Millions of people are interested in this salacious story, so of course a journalist who wants a successful media operation will be interested in presenting it. Breitbart handled it a lot better than Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity would have. To some liberals, it may be hard to realize there’s a big difference between an honest enemy and a dishonest one. Breitbart isn’t your enemy.

That said….why is it our enemies obsess so much about us,our orientation, our sex lives to the point where they have to villify, dehumanize and denigrate and spread blatant lies about us and who we are? Yes, there are some straight democrats who are just as guilty, but the majority of those who vote against us are republican. Have you ever asked yourself why? When progressive democrats, be they politicians,pundits, commentators raise the issue, then we’re accused of being liberal, left wing. Would you call republicans and worse, gay republicans voting against us a breath of fresh air? GOProud does just that and to some extent so has the Log Cabin. The fact that they vote for a party that consistently refuses to support our full equality is mind-boggling. Why aren’t the contenders for the GOP nomination not supporting us? Will anyone of them address our needs at the next convention in 2012? Where is this party of inclusion of which gay republicans speak? The hypocrisy is just as bad. They claim they want less government yet they rally for big government to ban us from marrying, adopting children and having recognition of our marriages at the federal level and the overwhelming majority of republicans voted against repeal of DADT including Chris Barron of GOProud. The democrats are far from perfect (I’m a Green) and could do a lot better, but at least the majority of them support us, no matter the struggles and failures to get any equalty legislation passed. Anyone who votes away or against my rights is no friend of the gay community, ever, including some gays who vote against themselves.

The real question is why Does rural America continue to vote against gay equality? This is closer to what is really happening in America. The Democrats in Georgia are just as anti-gay as the republicans in Georgia.
1. Most people living in the sub-burbs and rural areas are too busy going to work, raising there families and paying their taxes to pay much attention to every bill that their state is trying to pass.
2. When they do take there heads out of the sand and take interest in gay equality, rural America feels attacked by people they don’t know, don’t relate to and don’t live in their state.
3. The GLBT community is about 3-5 million people spread out over 50 states. With high concentrations in the largest cities. the suburbs are boring because all the gays live in the city. they don’t get to experience all the good that the GLBT community provides because all the cool boutiques are in the city. So there is just not enough positive exposure.
Most Americans are not anti gay equality. there just too busy to care either way. people living in the suburbs are like sheep, they go with the crowd. When the GLBT community learns this they can then change their message to get these people to follow them.

Regardless: The US Supreme Court has asserted that CIVIL marriage is a CIVIL RIGHT. Civil rights are protected explicitly and implicitly by the US Constitution and should not be put up to a vote. Therefore, LGBTQ rights and marriage equality should be out of the purveyance of the popular vote. Especially if it means letting the mouth-breathing idiot right-wingers in the South vote on our civil rights. Frankly, these are inbred morons who would knife their grandmothers for three days’ worth of crystal meth and a tray of deep-fried Twinkies. I know; I’ve met my cousins.

second. If the democrats are so gay friendly than why have they also opposed gay equality. I used Georgia in my example because For over a century, the Democratic Party dominated Georgia state and local politics. From 1872 to 2002, the Democratic Party controlled the Governor’s Mansion, both houses of the state legislature and most statewide offices. yet the democrats in georgia have not passed any laws legalizing gay marriage or gay equality. Explain to me how the republicans are responsible for georgia’s anti-gay stance. You cannot. so the explanation must be something other than republican/democrate because the democrates aren’t doing anything about gay issues either. Democrats go to church also, but there is never any mention of church going democrates on these boards.
I fully acknowledge how close this country is to passing true equality to all citizens. I have only given some suggestions as to why we are not getting the other 5% that is needed to get a majority to pass gay equality laws. stop shooting from the hip, try to read and understand what people are really saying before diving in with your one sided biased argument.

If Weiner stays in office or resigns is not up to the Republican party, it will be decided by the democrate party and Anthony Weiner. The republican party(a party I am not a member of) usually tries to end these matters quickly and get the offending person to quite before it becomes a media circus. This has not been the case every time. They only way a representive in congress can be forced to resign is after a congressional inquiry has been conducted and he has been found guilty of violating a rule of congress. Until then Weiner has the right to serve out his term in office.

Newt Gingrich, a serial adulterer, twice divorced, three times married, a pro sanctity of marriage hypocrite and another one, Rudy Giuliani who plans on running, again, twice divorced, three times married, both against same-sex marriage. But….NOT ONE republican in the House or the Senate chastizes them for their hypocrisy. NOM and other right wing hate groups were deafeningly silent. David Vitter was another, frequenting female escort services, another anti same-sex marriage hater and what happens? He returns to Congress and receives a standing ovation from his party. Not a word from the Log Cabin and more recently GOProud either publicly excoriating them. The Dems don’t have a perfect record but in general, the majority of them aren’t hyprocrites and bigots preaching one thing and practicing quite the other, although John Edwards wasn’t exactly a paragon of virtue either. I haven’t heard one word of criticism from Breitbart on Giuliani’s potential run. Though I don’t condone Weiner’s reckless behavior, no excuse for it, he didn’t actually commit adultery, no physical contact with any of the women involved. It pales when you look at Gingrich and Giuliani’s adulterous, extra-marital activities but they get a free pass.
