New Yorkers Anne Tischer and her wife Bess are upstanding citizens, she tells her State Sen. George Maziarz. They work hard, care for their community, pay their taxes. But they also have health and home issues, just like every other American. Not helping things? Their inability to marry. So will Maziarz continue “denying civil rights” to constituents like Anne and Bess as Gov. David Paterson demands the Senate vote on same-sex marriage?
In a word: Yes. But, as he waves away the applause, it’s clear he doesn’t want you celebrating his choice. Because, despite feeling so strongly about it, as he says, is he ashamed?
(Thanks, Maria!)

Despicable. Head out to Union Square tonight, if you’re in NYC. There will be a vigil on the eve of New York’s vote in the Senate.

Religion speaks again.
State Sen. George Maziarz is a Roman Catholic.

I’m glad he’s ashamed — in other words, I’m glad our society has reached a point where it’s a shameful thing to be a homophobe.
Also, why is he making the jerking-off motion with his left hand at the end?

how disgusting that people clap for discrimination, right in front of this woman who poured her heart out and very eloquently stated her case for marriage equality.
upstate emigre
this type of nonsense is exactly why the Upstate brain drain exists- backwards local politics (and policies) drive away anyone with any chance of doing anything anywhere else.
if you’re young, educated, and particularly if you’re gay, you leave Upstate. Sad, but true.
