You would think that an event open to the press would mean the White House wouldn’t have a problem revealing who it invited, but that’s not the case with yesterday’s evening reception for the Matthew Shepard Act in the East room. Blogger John Aravosis has been trying to get the list of attendees, which would expand on the previously available list of elected officials and family members of Shepard and James Byrd who attended. But what about the others in the crowd? From emails sent from their organizations, we know the usual suspects like HRC’s Joe Solmonese were there. But why such secrecy surrounding the RSVP list?

Because nobody cares. It was a non-event promoting a make-believe accomplishment for LGBT people.

Cyndi Lauper was there. Fittingly, since Obama showed his true colors with this war chest add-on ‘Protected – but not Respected’ Act.
2 wars funded? check.
DADT and DOMA still in place? check.
HRC ass-kissers whipped into adoration of me? check.

Well, one reason for not giving the press that list is to avoid offending anyone who was not invited and who thought he/she should have been invited (not being there doesn’t imply that you did not receive an invitation), or to avoid embarrassing anyone who RSVPed but couldn’t make it at the last minute.

I expect an explanation from the press secretary will be something along the lines of:
The Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA) is not yet passed into law. If the WH were to release a list of gay people, they could be fired from their jobs.
