New details have emerged about Orlando shooter Omar Mateen, who killed at least 49 people and injured 53 more when he opened fire on the gay nightclub Pulse early Sunday morning.

According to NBC News, his wife was well aware of his plans to attack the nightclub, tried to talk him out of it, but ultimately didn’t bother to mention the fact to police.

How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Officials investigating the case claim that Noor, Mateeen’s wife, told the FBI she dashed out with her husband to pick up ammunition and a new holster:
“She told the FBI that she once drove him to the gay nightclub, Pulse, because he wanted to scope it out.”
“Authorities are considering filing criminal charges against Noor for failing to tell them what she knew before the brutal attack, law enforcement officials say, but no decision has been made.”
Mateen’s ex-wife Sitora Yusufiy has widely condemned the attacks.
We’ll keep you updated as more information becomes known.

Life in prison and parental rights terminated. Bye!
Alistair Wiseman
This is very sad and disturbing. To think she could have possibly done something to prevent to this unnecessary carnage.
And to think an innocent child may possibly lose its home on top of everything else.
GC1985
She could have done something and she didn’t. She is just as responsible for the deaths of victims as he is. Charge her with the maximum set of charges.
Southstguy
@Alistair Wiseman: That kid will be lucky to be adopted out and hopefully never know about the stain of BOTH his parents.
Stache
Time to make that canary sing. I’m sure the Father had knowledge too.
GC1985
@Stache: I would charge them all.
Paco
@Stache: I have been thinking the same thing.
Xzamilio
@Alistair Wiseman: You know what I find hugely ironic about your comment after looking at your other comments about religion? That you seem to hold humans to a higher standard than the god you worship? Why didn’t your god stop it? She had the power to stop this before it happened and she didn’t, and I do agree she should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. But, your god ultimately had the greatest power to stop it? What about that?
Alistair Wiseman
@Xzamilio:
That is one of the great moral questions of the universe.
God gives us free will.
What you are asking has been asked and debated for centuries.
Xzamilio
@Alistair Wiseman: Then you have a god that favors the free will of a murderer over the lives of innocent people? How is that not messed up?
jimontp
@Stache: It’s probably wrong to speculate on things like the father’s involvement, but when I watched a 5 minute interview with him last night, the father exhibited absolutely NO SIGN of grief over his son’s death or any of the innocent victims. Totally dry-eyed, even voiced without a hint of human compassion. The father is the source of the oft-repeated “motive” of his son’s repulsion at seeing two men kissing, and the father has also stated his own belief that homosexuals will be punished in the after-life. Did the father know about his son’s activity on gay apps and (apparently) numerous trips to Pulse? Could he possibly have shamed and prodded his son? Who really knows? I hope that the FBI is doing a hell of a lot better questioning the father than they did the three times they “interviewed” the son, when they found “nothing serious.” Did the FBI ever interview the ex-wife or the current wife back then?

@Xzamilio: If the mighty interferes, people like the late Christopher Hitchens, calls him a “cosmic dictator akin to the north Korean variety” and if He doesn’t interferes, people like Sam Harris calls him “a bankrupted diety devoid of any moral loving capacity” (yes of read the books of both men) – So it seems atheist intellectuals are themselves split on what want God to do.
If you truelly care to the answer of your question, I would advise you to look up the “law of causality” it pretty much explains why God doesn’t interferes when floods, Hurricanes, or mass shootings happen.
Hussain-TheCanadian
The wife needs to be arrested for conspiracy to kill, planning, and helping in carrying out the attacks. Biatch wants to dance on our Graves because she hated his sexaulity, I say take the child away and put her in prison.
And I thought Brain would be all over this thread by now, I know queen has a hard on for woman.

@Xzamilio: It is messed up. Most Christians believe in their “God of Evil”, Satan…the fourth Christian God. Some believe in predestination (the Calvinists) who think our fate in life reflects our place in “God’s plan”: those predetermined to, have good fortune, others do not and who gets “saved” is predetermined and immutable. Jews believe the unitary God is the source of both good and evil (specifically stated in the Tanakh, our scripture which we do not call “the old testament”) whether intentionally or not, but that the reasons are beyond our understanding. Not entirely sure how Muslims deal with “the question of evil”. But if you remove God from the equation, it is clear destructive human action is complex and difficult to predict or understand in many cases. A person’s sense of real self worth and community seem to be the best predictor except where mental illness or sociopathy is present.
@Hussain-TheCanadian: Hurricanes, earthquakes, floods and such cannot really be seen as “evil”, but only as forces of nature. Their purpose is undeniably related to the continued viability of the planet (they balance energy on a local and global scale and we are simply accidentally in their way).
Xzamilio
@Hussain-TheCanadian: Your quote of Christopher Hitchens is woefully out of context, as he was talking about the God of the bible and when that brand of religion reigned supreme. He interfered in human affairs all the time based on holy doctrine, even after the “original sin”, so it makes no logical sense that it would suddenly stop. And I am even less interested in the law of causality,or the Uncaused Cause assertion, as that is just creationist nonsense. And the fact of the matter is, this unproven god DOESN’T interfere… it does everything a god that doesn’t exist would: nothing. Besides, when good things happen, “Thank God” or “God has been good to me” comes from the lips of many a believer, so which is it? If he doesn’t interfere with evil, he doesn’t interfere with good. That is a DEIST god, not a THEIST god.

By not alerting the police, the wife is a conspirator and accessory, especially since she helped him case the massacre site. How can she live with herself? I feel for that poor child, too. He’ll probably end up with the deranged grandfather, who has posted pro-Taliban videos claiming to be a leader in Afghanistan!
GC1985
@Kangol: I hope the kid is adopted into a proper family and I hope the parents are investigated too.
Alistair Wiseman
@Kangol:
The latest is the Dad stating this incident was the fault of the nightclub because they did not have accurate security.
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
GC1985
I would arrest the father too.
Hussain-TheCanadian
@dwes09: Yes you are correct, I agree.
@Xzamilio: I’m not surprised you have little interest in discussing the law of causality, I’m not surprised either that you’d call it “creationist nonsense” – Also you assume the law of causality and the uncaused cause law are the same, they are not.
What you see as nothing is wholly subjective; many of us see the cosmos as “fine tuned” and many atheists will cling to nonsense as the multiverse theory or the insanity known as the string theory.
Your so-called facts are nothing more than philosophical arguments neatly packaged within your predetermined world view.
Hussain-TheCanadian
@GC1985: personally I don’t understand American citizenship laws; how can an American citizen stand for elections in their country of origin while still holding Allegiance to the United states?
His father ran for the president of Afghanistan, his ass should be sent there. Maybe some of those pedophile peshtuns he idealized so much can teach him a thing or two about “democracy” and “freedom”.
Personally I don’t believe in dual citizenship or nationality, it creates multiple personalities and allegiances that we need to do away with.
ingyaom
The wife probably found GRINDR on the guy’s phone or found out he was going to Pulse, so he had to make up some phony cover story like he was doing oppo-research – “Honey, why don’t you drive me down to Pulse so I can scope out those ungodly gays…” It’s such BS.
Brian
Omar appears to have been attracted to men in addition to women. Liberals fear this and that’s why they’re trying to impose the gay identity on him. Liberals can’t cope with the concept of male bisexuality.
Billy Budd
I want both the father and the wife to be convicted and put in jail for a very long time.
Chris
I think the wife should have reported her husband if she knew what his plans were.
But I wonder how they’ll convict her when their whole cases will be based on her self-incriminating statements where she seems to be trying to cooperate with law enforcement and I’ll bet that she was never read her fifth amendment rights. Also, isn’t there is some sort of tradition in American jurisprudence against spouses testifying against one-another? I’m no lawyer, but this seems like a very messy case to try.
alemar123
In her hands are blood of those 49 victims.
Stache
In a perfect world they’d throw her and his Dad in Prison for the rest of their lives.
Alistair Wiseman
The Dad, a Democrat like his murderous son, needs to be fully investigated.
