Shortly after Jada Pinkett Smith threatened to boycott the 2016 Academy Awards due to the lack of diversity among nominees, Will and Jada received an unlikely attack by none other than Alexis Arquette.
And boy does she have some things to say.
In a Facebook post, Arquette claimed Will and Jada are both gay and in the closet. And while it’s hardly the first time the rumor has surfaced, Arquette’s read was oddly specific.

For what it’s worth, Will’s former Fresh Prince co-star Janet Hubert (Aunt Viv) also had some choice words about the possible boycott.
“I find it ironic that somebody who has made their living and has made millions and millions of dollars from the very people that you’re talking about boycotting just because you didn’t get a nomination, just because you didn’t win?” said Hubert. “That’s not the way life works, baby.”
She continued, “You ain’t Barack and Michelle Obama. And y’all need to get over yourselves. You have a huge production company that you only produce your friends and family and yourself. So you are a part of Hollywood, you are part of the system that is unfair to other actors. So get real.”
Hubert went on to blast Will for refusing to band together as a cast during the Fresh Prince days to negotiate a group raise like the “white shows” do.
“Your response to me was ‘my deal is my deal. And your deal is your deal,'” she says.
Sounds like nobody will be attending the next dinner party at the Smith’s.

I don’t care what their sexual orientations are, and I have no idea beyond their public statements about their open marriage as to what sorts of rules they’ve negotiated for themselves. They wouldn’t be the first gay-gay-passing-as-straight couple. They also actively support gay rights, so I wish people would NOT claim they are against gay rights. AND they are very supportive of their children’s non-heteronormativity, which is wonderful.
Whatever they are, though, the fact remains that for two straight years the acting nominations for the Oscars have been a total whiteout. This goes far beyond Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith. People of color constitute 47% of moviegoers but Hollywood decision-makers and films remain exceedingly white. Not only don’t they reflect the reality of US diversity in 2016, but they also don’t reflect the diversity of stories out. This is true of gay Hollywood films as well.

Will Smith was a willing participant for years in the homophobic “humor” of those Michael Bay “Bad Boys” movies, so saying he’s not done any harm to the LGBT community isn’t really correct. That kind of garbage is what’s helped normalize anti-gay attitudes for years.
Is Alexis Arquette’s timing bad? Yeah, probably. But is Alexis wrong? Probably not so much. The time to forcefully “out” Will Smith was back when he was happily starring in those movies. To have an open relationship doesn’t mean their both gay. I’m not saying they aren’t I’m saying I have no idea. But whatever they are doing it has clearly impaired their parenting skills. Both their children Jaden and Willow are a mess acting as if their adults when they were only 12 & 14. Using their influence to obtain movie roles for Jaden who didn’t get any of the actor genes from his father, nor the limited ones available from his mother has done nothing but give him a swelled head and a sense of entitlement that will likely kill him. I can understand trying to hide their homosexuality from the public because to succeed in Hollywood when your black is a huge burden already. @Stached1: There is no basis to sue. Unless you want to argue and expect a jury to agree that calling someone gay is defamatory. Even if they met this burden, their damages would be limited to the harm to their reputation. They’d have to prove that they’ve lost work because of it and/or had their reputation harmed in their community. From a practical perspective, they’d be fools to sue.
