Will Anything Less Than A Life Sentence Be Justice For Kevin Pravia’s Killer Jeromie Cancel?

It took Jeromie Cancel’s jury less than an hour to convict of second-degree murder for the 2008 slaying of Kevin Pravia (pictured, left), a gay 19-year-old Pace University student, who prosecutors say was drunkenly lured into inviting Cancel to his NYC apartment. A then-homeless Cancel planned to rob him, and murdered him out of boredom while the pair watched Hostel. Cancel used an electric cord raound Pravia’s neck, he told police, while he smoked a cigarette; he confessed to police three days later after being picked up on an unrelated petty theft charge. Cancel’s attorneys, who argued the 24-year-old suffered extreme emotional problems, plan to appeal the verdict, which carries a possible life sentence. Cancel smiled as he left the courtroom.
