SOUNDBITES — “Will homosexual numbers be inflated by this ‘you decide what you are’ policy? Probably. This policy shift is another attempt to confuse the discussion about marriage by creating a problem of sorts, then providing a solution that advances the homosexual agenda of redefining marriage.” —The always-flirtatious Faith and Freedom Network president Gary Randall, responding to the U.S. Census Bureau’s encouragement of gays to call themselves “married” if they want to (via)

I know we hear shit like this all the time, but I never get used to the fact that somebody can say something like “the homosexual agenda of redefining marriage.” Does he really think gays have some ulterior motive for marriage equality? Or is the motive of equal rights offensive enough to people like him to label it the “homosexual agenda” so loathsomely?

The VERY LATE campaign to have gay couples mark “married” on the census will be completely ineffective.
The census bureau spent nearly a year of PR telling gay couples that, if you mark “married” it will NOT be counted. They went so far as to say that, the entire response will be discarded ad an error, and the household will NOT be counted at all.
Then, TWO WEEKS AFTER the forms arrived, and MORE THAN A WEEK AFTER most people sent them back, there is a very small campaign to tell couples to mark “married”. Instructions should be given in advance, not after the form is filled out and returned.
That is so completely absurd, it doesn’t even rise to the usual fourth-subbasement level of government incompetence.
