Lesbian Wisconsin congresswoman Tammy Baldwin has just announced that she wishes to run for Senate in 2012. If she wins her party primary (which she probably will), she’ll not only be the first openly lesbian senator, she’ll also have to face off against former Congressman Mark Neumann, an anti-gay politician who once said, “If I were elected God for a day, homosexuality wouldn’t be permitted.”
But before he gets to challenge Baldwin, he’ll have to beat former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson for the Republican nomination. Nevertheless Neumann has already started gunning for Baldwin saying, “It is essential that we bring Tammy Baldwin’s record to the forefront.” The real question is whether Baldwin has a chance of getting elected by Wisconsin’s conservative electorate.

Who cares if she is gay? She’s a Liberal; that’s bad enough!
the crustybastard
This asshole has totalitarian fantasies about exterminating gays and he’s running on a mainstream political party ticket?
This country is getting very, very scary, very, very quickly.
Kids, keep your passports up-to-date.
Seriously. Not kidding.

Mr. Neumann has to get through the very popular former Governor, and Secretary of Health and Human Services under George W. Bush, Tommy Thompson. Gov. Thompson is a far more moderate, but wildly popular, guy. Neumann is going to have to fight, and hard, to get the nomination.
