If you weren’t watching the Investigation Discovery channel last night (pretty safe bet that you weren’t) you would have missed the new episode of “Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry?” in which Dina Matos McGreevey rehashes how she was duped by the now openly gay former governor.
“Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry” typically features spouses sharing how they had unknowingly married criminals, but this time the producers went for a bigger, more fame-seeking fish and landed Jim McGreevey’s scorned ex. And apparently Dina proved more than eager to talk about what went down between her and Jim more than seven years ago.
Of course we are sympathetic to straight women who unwittingly marry gay men. But didn’t we already hear all about this in 2007 when Dina was trying to sell her book with the same theme and whined her way onto the set of The Oprah Winfrey Show and spoiled an otherwise lovely morning by complaining to Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America? Perhaps there was something left unsaid during that last pay-attention-to-me media tour?
We certainly hoped we had heard the last from Dina when she voiced her opposition to same-sex marriage in 2010. Alas, no. This former First Lady of New Jersey cannot be silenced.
But if you’re worried about what you might have missed in the half-hour “Who The (Bleep)…” show, rest assured, nothing earth shattering was revealed, and sadly Dina didn’t say if the allegations that she and Jimbo had regular threesomes with a former aide after dinner at T.G.I. Fridays were true or not.
The show was essentially a fluff piece that included Dina’s commentary and testimonies from her brother and a friend, along with plenty of cheesy dramatic re-enactments and shots of Dina making and sipping coffee, and staring sadly out her kitchen windows.
Though a narrator is on hand to try and convince us what a good, hard-working person Dina is, Dina is more than willing to share that Jim was “oblivious” to her feelings and “blindsided” her with his “I am a gay American” speech. “I now know he had married me for political gain,” she says solemnly, as if her friend hadn’t told us earlier that Dina had once confessed to her she thought Jim was “like Abraham Lincoln. He’s everything I’ve ever imagined.”
At the conclusion of the program, the narrator is there to provide comfort, saying that Dina’s doing better today, particularly after she wrote that “best seller” about her marriage to Jim McGreevey. And for those concerned the governor might have extinguished Dina’s last glimmer of hope, the narrator lets us know that despite everything, Dina has not given up hope on the prospect of a new marriage.

I too have felt that Dina McGreevy should shut-up and move on but the truth is, Jim McGreevy is a liar and fraud. If I were in her shoes, no one could tell me how long it is ok to be pissed off that my husband lied to me from the beginning, was having affairs and was suddenly leaving me alone to be a single parent. While I do think she should really focus on her future, she has the right to be angry. The fact is, she could have married someone who actually loved her years ago but she instead ended up with a self-loathing closet case. What struck me about this situation at the time was that when they decided that they would divorce, Jim was very carefree because he already had a long-term relationship and had bought a house with the guy. This is probably another fact that set her off in addition to the fact that as a political wife, she spent her marriage making sacrifices for his career and received a big slap in the face for it.
I won't grow up
I’m sure she’s short on cash, she was paid for the interview. After all, Hell hath no fury………etc.
Like a ill tempered dog, if you ignore her, she’ll go away again.
I won't grow up
One more thing. Jimmy boy is a loathsome mutha****er hiding in the clergy now. As my sainted grandmother would say, “He should grow boils on his balls”.
Harry
Dina obviously misses getting laid by McGreevy.
It’s over Dina. He’s just not that into you. Time to move on.

@Brian: I totally agree she has the right to be mad at McGreevey for lying and leaving her and or/duping her. However, does she need to drag out her frustration in the public forum? No. She didn’t need to do that in the first place, despite being a public figure. But she chose to wrote a book and then promote it extensively and then do this program. I wonder if she has thought about what her daughter will think when she grows up and wonders why her mother is continuing to let this play out in the media. Also, Jim fought for and won joint custody, so definitely wasn’t trying to leave her to take care of the kid on her own.
ewe
I actually like Jim McGreevey. I met him at the LGBT center a few years back and he came up to me like i was his best friend. His ex wife however is just plain ol bitter.

@mrbrodybrown: If you are married and living with and sleeping with your spouse and you can’t freagin figure out their sexual orientation then you are either stupid or in denial or both. She needs to work on herself at least half as much as he has.
hf2hvit
She’s either an idiot or a liar. She said several times that before they were married that
1. She had NEVER spent any time alone with him.
2. She had NEVER met his parents even though they lived a few miles away.
Along with several other ridiculous statements. With just those two things, why would you marry anybody?
Jeff in NYC
She needs to gather up what is left of her dignity and move the hell on.

Thank you.
I’m fed up of these cold opportunistic and very smart women LYING that they didn’t know the man was gay. Especially when it gave her an exclusive powerful life that she could gloat to her friends at parties over. You are all woefully naive if you believe a women who marries a politician is such a frigging victim she doesn’t know her husband is gay.
What would be a great article is why so many women willingly marry gay men even though they KNOW he is gay, be it he TELLS you, stays away from sex with you or simply claims to be asexual.
That to me is what I find fascinating, weird, suspect and conniving on these certain women’s part.
A quick simple example is Ricky Martin. Despite the fact that he has publicly acknowledged being gay, has two kids and a partner. He was saying he was shocked that women still propositioned him.
Now I bet Chely Wright or Amanda Heard who admittedly are not half as famous, may get guys coming on to them who don’t know them but once they do, how many would willingly and stalkingly seek a relationship with them?
jason
Most women out there are married to bisexually oriented men whether they like it or not. These men may be oriented more towards women than men but it still doesn’t change the fact that they are bisexually oriented.
Face it, ladies, you’re dealing with men here. Men have a very powerful sexuality. In most men, it can go either way depending on situations and circumstances. Male sexuality is thus prone to influences of circumstance, situation and psychology. It’s like a constantly working motor that ebbs and flows according to the gear stick and the environment.
On the other hand, ladies, your sexuality, is like an on/off switch. It goes off for very long periods. It is designed to do this because a fetus doesn’t like to have a penis poking around in its environment.

Jim McGreevey is a loathesome little reptile.
For starters he was a lying closet case for no reason other than greed and cowardice.
Secondly he was / is a revolting famewhore.
Thirdly – now he is involved in religion – therefore even less trustworthy than when he s was a politician.
I say to his ex-wife – use his name however you like to earn some money.
the crustybastard
This is the sort of marriage that Christians want for all of us.
George412
How long did Jim make Dina’s life miserable by lying to her? She has every right to make his life miserable for just as long, if not longer. She was the victim. Not him. He was the one who made the public spectacle and came out on on national TV. Not to mention he is a politician. I’m sure Jim has a thick enough skin to handle the wife he wronged.
Alexa
Oh Jason, you never fail to amuse.
@the crustybastard: sadly too true.
RomanHans
> Dina has not given up hope on the prospect of a new marriage.
I hear Al Reynolds is available.
RomanHans
SteveC, you know what? If society tells us to marry women, and employers tell us to marry women, and the government tells us to marry women, and our parents tell us to marry women, I don’t blame a gay dude who marries a woman.
Mike
SteveC, you sound like a real self-hating asshole. Get a life.
Jane
I, too, was married to a gay man that came out of the closet after 10 years of marriage and 3 kids. He has treated me the same way that Jim has treated Dina…as if she is the one that is wrong instead of wronged. I feel sorry for Dina and the others out there that this happened to. It is a sad situation, especially when there are children involved. I think they are suffering from a case of narcissism when it is all about them all the time!
JoeyO'H
I had no idea she was still flappin’ her gums. Blah, blah, blah.
Mykey
stop being stupid people, some men really know how to hide their gay/bisexuality from women, so how they heck do you end up blaming the woman! Also, society is to blame for all this as neither is really at fault, for the gay/bi man, it’s a due to the fear of being renounced by friends or family for being gay
Marie Cohn
Dina, grrl, you need to get yourself a gaydar, honey. Anybody else could take a look at Jim’s fellatin’ lips, and know you were in denial, sweetie, which is not just a river in Egypt.
jason
Jane,
Your husband wasn’t gay, he was bisexual. His “coming out” possibly reflects other factors to do with personalities. Like men who leave their wives for other women, it’s possible that his actions reflect a desire for new pastures.
I do think that some of these men play the gay card when in fact they are simply moving onto new pastures. Keep in mind the the defining characteristic of male sexuality – regardless of its orientation – is the desire to find something new. New, new, new, different, different, different.
I became aware of this phenomenon after observing men in saunas and sex clubs: they would go from one stranger to another without saying a word, emit a few grunts in a cubicle, wash their hands in the bathroom, and then move on to another. It was a cascade of promiscuity and conquest unmitigated by social rules.
desdemona
Why the hell is a woman who unknowingly married a gay man NOT in favor of same sex marriage?! She really must be bitter to want to have other women go through what she went through; that’s what will continue to happen as long as same sex marriage is not legal! What an idiot she truly is!
SBC19
@jason: As usual, you’re full of shit jason.
SJ
@jason: “I became aware of this phenomenon after observing men in saunas and sex clubs”
Were you conducting a psychological experiment? I think not. More like you were the guy most grumbled to and move on from.
Steve
Naturally, you will all have sympathy for the gay guy no matter what he does. No one bothers to think of the situation from her perspective. She was made to look like a fool. Then, instead of owning up to his mistake Jim McGreevey didn’t seem sorry, nor did he try to make things easier for her when they were seperating. Then, she was left broke and ended up losing her job because of the bad publicity surrounding her. When I see her talk, it comes across to me as genuine. When I see Jim McGreevey talk, it’s all superficial. Put aside the fact that she may be a little homophobic and looks beyond the surface. (Hell, I might be a little homophobic too if I found out my marriage was a sham, my husband was gay, and he embarrassed me on national television.) I feel sorry for her. (And for the record, I’m gay.)
Nancy
I only have issue with her bringing this up if it is true that she engaged in threesomes with him and one of his gay lovers. If she knew that he was attracted to men than she is culpable and might explain why she was not awarded alimony. As for all these gay or others issues with infidelity, people need to just start living in their truth and at the very least be truthful with the people they marry or have committed relationships with.
