I always love when law enforcement preemptively calls an attack a “hate crime” — like they’re doing with the Orlando assault of a 20-year-old bisexual man by nine still-not-apprehended teens — before the case gets into the hands of prosecutors. Because everything changes once the district attorney is involved. Deals are made. Charges are lessened and dropped. And anti-gay assailants get probation.

Man I hate it when I click on a fucking NON-story.
Geez, Queerty, the story link you provide clearly states that law enforcement is “considering” whether a hate crime was committed. AND, there have been NO arrests made so who knows what the fuck will happen until there are suspects who have been questioned and defendants who are charged.
Queerty, you didn’t even bother to report this gang bashing; and now you are passing judgment on how others will/could/should respond.

“Because everything changes once the district attorney is involved. Deals are made. Charges are lessened and dropped. And anti-gay assailants get probation.” So true. Heterosexuals know that if you say things gay people want to hear that most will move on and trust everything you say and do even though in reality they purposefully sabotage investigations and lessen charges because the victim is gay.

the guy is alive. It will not remain a hate crime. Simple assault at best. That is the same as a disorderly conduct charge.

IF the crime happened at all. It very well might have. But I can’t forget the Phillip Nelson and Shawn Bennett frauds.
