““If we succeed, we will not only change history in California, we will change the tone and tenor of this debate, not only across America, but the rest of the world.” – San Francisco Mayor and gay advocate Gavin Newsom during a launch this weekend for his push against Proposition 8, which seeks to ban gay marriage in California. Draft Gavin Newsom for California Conernor. Hasta La Vista Leather Handbag Face Arnie! If Cali goes down on yes on Prop 8, so goes the Presidential Election and Barack and the Democrats should prioritize this initiative so Cali does not come into play or we are toast!
California.
California.
California.
John
The Democrats will carry California whether Proposition 8 passes or fails. Remember, Proposition 22 – the ban on same-sex marriage that was struck down as unconstitutional – was passed in 2000.
Yet, Diane Fienstein was re-elected with 5.9 million votes (versus 3.8 million for Republican Tom Campbell). Al Gore got basically the same number of votes as Fienstein (versus 4.5 million for George W. Bush). This means that many Californians who voted Democrat were also for the anti-gay amendment.
However, it has been nearly a decade since that vote. The Legislature passed a comprehensive Domestic Partnership Act (civil unions) in 2003. Giving gays and lesbians all the rights and responsibilities of marriage – even without the name- did not cause the universe to collaspe. God did not send down lightning bolts to smite Los Angeles and San Francisco. So, the argument that recognizing same-sex relations are somehow going to bring “fire and brimstone” has died down in California considerably.
Thus, support for same-sex marriage has been growing steadily every year. So I think we’re in a much better this year than in 2000. Nevertheless, the Democrats don’t care because they’re going to win California anyway.
Even after the GOP Convention, Obama’s holding a 51% to 37% lead over McCain in the Golden State. Before that, it was 58% to 30%.
Woof
SCREW THE ELECTION WE CANNOT LET PROP 8 PASS!!!!
VOTE VOTE VOTE!

Thank you JOHN. Could not have said it better myself. If anything Democrats will draw more of the people inclined to vote in favor of such discriminatory law. In the end CA might go blue again while at the same time returning its GLBT citizens to the bottom of the pyramid. Thanks Obama!

How do we go about nominating Gavin Newsom for sainthood?
He is correct, this could push gay rights light years ahead but
if it fails it could set gay rights back to the dark ages. If California, one of our biggest and most liberal states with the worlds 5th largest economy decides to remove our right to marry then I think the issue is a lost cause. If that is the case then I say get the fuck out of America and let the shit hole crumble. Take yourselves, your money, your education and creativity and help a place prosper that sees you as equal. I think that this is about something even greater than gay rights, it is going to define the entire direction of the United States morally and spiritually. We are entering an age where all oppressive institutions, governments and religions are going to crumble and it is not going to be pretty, especially if the United
States decides to progress toward the dark side. I travel extensively for business and let me tell you most western, civilized nations, along with most in the rest of the world are not
rooting for America, so it is up to we Americans to seal our own destiny because most could care less what becomes of us.

Draft Gavin Newsom for California Governor (and why did Barack diss him so?)
Sorry, this is a correction from my first post (Ah, the caffeine is kicking in!)
Fat Fingers!
John, don’t count your (Salinas Battery Hen) Chickens until they hatch!

McCain has to carry either Los Angeles County… or at least 4-5 of the San Francisco Bay Area’s nine counties. These are the most voter-rich areas of the state. And no Republican can win statewide in California without acheiving one of these goals. In fact, Arnold Schwarzenegger did both.
But then again, Arnold is a lot more moderate than McCain. And he has that “star power” obsession going for him.

Both sides are starting to pick up the pace with their campaigns. I’ve been volunteering with No On Prop 8 (noonprop8.com) and I’ve found that nearly all of the people I talk to on the street have not heard about this proposition. On the plus side, most of them are against it after they learn what it is. The problem is that there’s a good chunk of undecided voters out there that just don’t care very much and they’re going to be the ones deciding the outcome.
This is going to be very close. Newsom is right about how the outcome will shape LGBT civil rights issues for years to come.
