This is probably the first (and hopefully only) time we’re telling you to tune into The View, but on today’s episode, Whoopi, Joy and whomever will reveal details about Astonishing X-Men #50âthe beginning of the story arc that’s believed to lead to gay mutant superhero Northstar’s marriage to boyfriend Kyleâas part of their regular “hop topics” segment.
The issue, which hits stores on Wednesday, is known to lead into to June’s issue #51, which features “an X-Men wedding.” Maybe it’s cyborg lesbian telepath Karma tying the knot? We hear she’s got a U-haul all packed and ready to go.
The View airs at 11am on ABC.

WHOOPI, not Whoopie. And the lesbian UHaul joke is about as old as Whoopi. đ

Too bad this didn’t happen when the X-Men comics were still good.
Oh, ok
What’s wrong with The View? Aside from Elizabeth it’s actually a pretty decent show that gives women a voice where they generally wouldn’t have one at all.

There was a time in the 1950s that religious leaders – mostly the hating christian ones that took out a crusade against comic books as immoral – sexual explicit etc etc…it forced all of the comic books to some degree to strip any kind of relationships from the characters etc… until almost all of them were just asexual.
Here’s hoping these dumbass religious leaders just keep attacking television.. LOL

I’m glad to see the wedding, of course, but Northstar has always been at most a supporting character, and it’s a shame that Marvel features him only when they want to have a brief storyline about some gay issue. In ’92 when Northstar came out in Alpha Flight 106, there was a flourish of press coverage, conservatives were outraged, and sales of Alpha Flight skyrocketed. Then nothing. Northstar largely disappeared. the Alpha Flight title was cancelled in ’94.
The truth is the X-Men subtext has long spoken to gay youth better than Marvel’s shaky attempts to be overt. Mutants, different from birth, unwelcome in the world. No gay kid can read that without seeing himself reflected.
I’d love to see Marvel really leading with this issue, but, for whatever reason, they hang back. Make Wolverine gay, or *finally* acknowledge that the Human Torch is a closet case, then I’ll be impressed.
Oh, ok
@Camerado: Not just gay, there are a lot of black X-men fans. I got into comics through my dad who had been reading them since he was a kid.
X-men basically spoke to any marginalized groups imo. And well there are more obvious differences than sexuality.

Marvel and ABC which airs The View are both owned by Disney. It’s no surprise they’d have one of their properties advertise another. But, the fact they are advertising a same sex marriage, even if it’s between two lesser known comic book characters, is great progress for the normalization of marriage equality.

This is so great for LGBT Youth. I loved reading X-Men growing up (apparently X-Men attracts more gays than other comics), and this level of acceptance must speak volumes to young readers.
The mental health of our Youth is TOP priority, and every action our Movement takes reflects this.
Well
Those comics were always gay. Some of those heroes crotches were really drawn in an eye-catching way, the closest thing to porn I had access to as a kid.
