Shawn Ashmore, the actor who portrayed Iceman in the X Men film series, wants to return to the franchise now that the character has come out of the closet.
In fact, he thinks Bobby Drake’s recent coming out story is the best possible thing that could’ve happened to the character:
“Obviously the comics and movies are separate. I wonder what the transition would be because we’ve sort of established Bobby as having a love interest in Rogue and having a love interest in sort of Kitty Pryde, but I think it’d be really interesting.”
“I think it’d probably be the most interesting thing that could happen to Bobby in the films.”
“If they decided to take the story that way, it’d be incredibly dramatic, it’d be an interesting storyline, and it would give Bobby a great character arc.”
Of course, he’s skeptical that Hollywood producers would dare make such a bold decision.
“I’d definitely be open to that, but again, I’m not sure if they want to take the character in that direction,” he said. “I have no idea how they would play that out. I think it’d be very interesting.”

The chances of this happening are very slim.
If it did happen it would be very slight. Hollywood just isn’t ready for a masculine gay man. Hollywood loves type casting and this just wouldn’t blow over lol..

Ironically Bryan Singer’s predatory gay ass probably won’t allow it to happen. But I freaking love Shawn Ashmore so much right now. I remember he seemed excited when it was announced in the comics and he didn’t have to make this statement so it’s really big and bold that he did.
It’s sad that a gay man will probably stand in the way of Bobby Drake being gay on the big screen. And the strangest part is that Singer in his everlasting narcissism created an entire coming out scene for Bobby when the character wasn’t gay yet.
Anything Singer didn’t come up with himself won’t have a place on screen and while he might include a lesbian character most Hollywood gays are very homophobic when it comes to gay males on television no matter how gay they are themselves irl. Not expecting it to happen really.
Fox and Singer are the worst thing to happen to X-men. I dunno why Singer is vehemently defended by supposed fans. It’s almost entirely unrecognizable from the comics and the diversity of the teams is totally gone… heck the various teams within the X-men are also gone. Even Apocalypse… a blue African is now a white Hispanic man.

Of course, like everybody, I think it would be great to see a gay Iceman in an X-Men movie, but doubt the studios will allow it.

@sportsguy1983: No he posted in favor of it when it was just a rumor spreading around Twitter. He didn’t have to and honestly it hurts his chances of being in the film more than helps so I don’t see how it’s helping him. He’s made a career without using anyone. He and his brother are down to Earth and not nasty like most of the actors in Hollyweird.
They both have also never shied away from playing gay characters so I dunno why you’re challenging his support.

I wish they’d stop making the Xmen films a Wolverine based movie. I know Hugh Jackman made the role shine in the original film, and Wolverine has been a fan favorite for decades, but the sequels became less and less an ensemble and that kind of bothers me. Personally i would love to see more Ice Man, More Kitty, more Storm for fucks sake. The distribution of camera time is one of the major positives in X-men Origins. It’s still a Magneto show, but I felt the kids had a fair amount of screen time.
