In the unexpectedly powerful short film 1st Grade Picture, a young man is involved in a passionate conversation with his mother. The two family members are seated in a car and their chat indicates the young man is about to have a medical consultation for a surgical procedure that will affect both their lives. But it’s not what you probably think it is.
The film, written by Cam Montgomery Jr., directed by Allen L. Sowelle and starring Brandon Espy and Ginger Marin, is an episode in the Front Seat Chronicles series of shorts. Watch it below.

She admits that women hate gay men…that’s no surprise…

Wow. That was very powerful. Loved it. Brandon Espy is gorgeous and an amazing photographer.

Doesn’t make sense.

@yaoming:
What doesn’t make sense? It makes perfect sense. What exactly don’t you understand about it?

I agree a very powerful performance by both actors.
That being said, I have watched it twice now and I don’t understand the “surprise ending”. Perhaps I am looking too literally and don’t want to offer spoilers but I agree with yaoming, I don’t get it.
tricky ricky
alexander used to be a girl! that was the twist ending. I suppose the medical consultation was for the making of the penis.
MrGoodTaste
Very very powerful piece! I truly felt the mom’s anguish. Excellent acting. I would so go out with Alexander.
MrGoodTaste
@tricky ricky: why would you say this?
Mdterp01
For those confused, did you’ll not see the mother pull the picture from the visor at the end with the picture of Alex as a girl? There was writing on the back that was signed Alex and he previously said “I’m a grown man now and want to be called Alexander”.
yaoming
Is s/he supposed to be adopted?
yaoming
…and transgendered?
Mdterp01
@yaoming:
No. The mother said “you have your grandfather’s eyes” so that would normally lead one to assume that he was bi-racial and that he has a black (or of other color) father and that was his white mother. Yes, he was transgender.
