If you’ve noticed an increasing number of younger guys who aren’t labeling their sexuality or are getting pretty aggressive about their come-ons (and we have), the results of a new poll may help explain the new phenomenon.
Fifteen European broadcasters launched the new poll Generation What to get a sense of how the younger generation negotiates sex, and they’re definitely open to a little experimentation.
From Pink News:
It looks at the views of young people under the age of 34 across the EU, with more than 250,000 people taking part so far and answering questions about their views, opinions and personal lives.
As well as some of the more wild statistics – apparently 7 percent of young people have smoked a joint with their parents – the poll provides a surprisingly detailed view of sexuality across Europe.
The poll found that among the younger generation, sexual diversity is widely accepted across national boundaries – despite a growing divide on LGBT rights
From their findings:
- 14% of young people have tried gay sex
- 1 in 5 want to try gay sex
- 81% are completely unbothered by seeing gays kissing
- Over 50% have friends of a different sexual orientation
To us, that’s definitely the smell of progress…and more than a little curiosity. Head over to Pink News to see more results. If you’re bilingual or live in Europe, check out the full survey here.

I don’t know if I should find this poll enlightening or worrisome – “gay sex” isn’t a fad to “try” – Anyway it proves, lightly, that gay people are 10% of the population no matter where they are, and another 20% are possibly Bisexual?

This is indeed beautiful and fills my heart with hope. It is a pity I won’t stay young to enjoy these new generations. The world is becoming a better place for us.

Oh for god’s sake this isn’t NEW. I think gay men need to accept that a hetrosexual man will want his little friend taken care of by another man but still love a woman and be straight. If I had sex with a woman I won’t be straight. So long as people are safe physically and emotionally
Rimminit
I’m gay and have been my whole life. I’ve had some kind of sexual relationship with all of my friends since I was 6 years old. Every one of my friends were straight, married, and had families. I don’t think any one of my friends regret having sex with me.
Billy Budd
@Rimminit: You seem to be a straight guy hunter. This is shocking. Why not keep the focus where it belongs and develop REAL relationships with people who have the same taste as you do?
Brian
Every man has various strengths of homosexual desire. It’s natural but not acceptable as it competes with the concept of the nuclear family. Many men simply won’t accept their homosexual desires for that reason.

@Michael Paul: @Brian: oh look, you’ve both met your perfect match. How romantic!

Wow, what a shock. Get rid of laws against being gay, have bigotry go down and more gays and bisexuals are showing up.

Still looking for any “news value” to this testic… uh… article….
Charlie in Charge
Well that’s certainly wonderful news.

I actually thought this article was going to address the declining age of first sex. Prior to the advent of the internet, gays often had to wait until their twenties before they could find sex partners.

Guys, I am amazed that many of you simply don’t realize that this study is a HUGE piece of good news for us. THIRTY FIVE percent of youngsters have, will have or had gay sex. This is MAGICAL. This is the future becoming a reality.
