We love a bearded queen. Is there any better way of saying “thanks but no thanks” to superficial gender expectations than by mixing masculine and feminine into a beautiful conglomeration of yas queen?
We also love a queen with comedy chops. On a recent episode of America’s Got Talent, we got both when Kentucky’s own Scott Heierman took the stage and gave an undeniably fabulous performance.
And here’s the best part — Scott predicted his schtick would go over well, but he never could have expected to gain a whole new fan base of kids after the segment aired.
The mother of a nine-year-old boy even posted a video of her son imitating Scott — heels and all. Another little girl dressed in pink eyebrows and beard after she saw the clip. So much yes.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Watch the audition below:
And here’s an awkward local news segment which includes one of Scott’s new young fans. Keep in mind that this is on local Kentucky news, which is pretty amazing:

Conchita Wurst brings out the best in everyone

He was funny!

Do you, but this whole bearded drag is hideous imho. Ms. Evita & Auntie Noxy would have even crowed Chi Chi queen by this new standard. This is literally but a boy in a dress. I think it’s disrespectful to the art of drag.

I think the beard should go!

@mezzacanadese: I think you should go away!

Funny routine.

There are different types of DRAG… There’s CAMP DRAG, which is what he and Conchita perform… There is FEMALE IMPERSONATORS, which go for realism to try to look like a real woman… and there is PERFORMANCE DRAG, which is more or less men in dresses with fake tits and makeup doing it to entertain you. Comparing one type to another type is like comparing Dolly Parton to Julie Andrews. They are totally different styles of performing!

Bryan Vitellaro. I watch AGT every week. He was so funny, plus he is from Kentucky which is where I was born & raised. I hope he wins. What a nice shape he has.
Sam Oropeza
RidÃcula, se cree Conchita Wurst.
808Skinhead
@Sam Oropeza: Pendejo. No se cree Conchita Wurst. She was not the first to do bearded drag nor will she be the last. Check your facts before you make stupid comments.

He’s fantastic!!!!!

He’s hilarious! I bet he turns a lot of heads in Kentucky!

You can tell he was nervous. He kind of threw away his punchlines and everything was a bit too fast. I hope he gets more comfortable on stage. He was pretty funny. It’s about time a comedian should win.

Conchita Wurst was there first, but this guy is funny.
(to people who do not know who the hell Conchita Wurst is, please check
out her clips on Youtube, especially her 2014 Eurovision victory, it was fab!)
808Skinhead
@AdrianS: Conchita Wurst was NOT the first bearded drag queen. Maybe the first one YOU’VE seen, but bearded drag goes as far back as bearded ladies in circus sideshows. I’m sure further. Read up. F*ck. and if you want to be current, look up Grace Towers. She’s been doing bearded drag long before Conchita Wurst had. Jeez.

This was hilarious! Best performance of the night!

I see a few, have been doing the comparison thing, using Conchita Wurst as an example. With Conchita, she has an amazing voice, for not many “queens” today, can belt out a tune like Conchita. One person posted a bang on truthfulness, regarding the difference between queens. Kudos to them. I learned in my early 20’s (I’m now 50) the difference of what a drag queen is. Yes, Scott did camp drag albeit, with a full beard! He was quite refreshing and yes, entertaining. It’s not easy, getting up onto a stage, with well known celebrity judges in front of you and a full house of onlookers. Who wouldn’t be nervous. Heck, when I got up on stage to perform (not in a dress, as a guy doing a comedy lip sync skit… a charitable fundraiser), I had a small crowd of people and yeah, I was bloody nervous as hell but I achieved my goal, over came being in the spotlight and made everyone laugh. So, unless you have the guts to do what Scott did or even get on a stage in front of many strangers and perform, you’ll never be able to grasp and over come the torrent of butterflies that swirl within your stomach. It takes guts and to do it in a dress, with make up and a full beard? Conchita paved the way for more entertainers to step out and do their thing. Scott didn’t fumble. Scott did the exact opposite and raised the bar. Expect to see more gutsy entertainers, like Scott!

@Ryan-Andrew Michael Villanueva: It’s called “Camp Drag” and no, it’s not insulting, it’s done for “FUN” and is in no way mocking Drag Queens. How in the hell do you not think, drag is just drag? What you put on your body, everyday, that is also considered a form of “drag”.
