Bloody Hell!
"The blood transfusion service has rejected calls from gay men's groups to lift the ban on them donating blood. It has told the Scottish Parliament petitions committee HIV is rising in gay men and donor selection is the only way to keep blood products safe. The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service said it was not discriminating just recognizing behavioral risks." Hmmm… Isn't that sort of like saying all gay men are irresponsible sex fiends? [BBC]

Yes- more specifically, it's saying that ONLY gay men are irresponsible sex fiends; which is a bad joke considering some of the straight men I know.
The donated blood, at least in this country, are very carefully cleaned and screened, and yet if you've had sex with a man, you can't donate or sell blood or plasma, in spite of the shortages of both.
It's pure homophobia- and that's not a word I use often, since there are several words that are shorter, and more to the point!
You know what? Until so many gay men stop giving the rest of us a bad name by being so self-destructive and refusing to use the safe-sex rules we've known for 30 years, I understand the SNBTS's concerns.
