Ok. I normally dislike DW, but he has a point here. There are gays who are caught up in the cult of masculinity, especially in porn, and are embarrassed by other gays who don’t follow that standard. They are called queeny, femme, not acting like “real men,” etc.

As usual, the title doesn’t have much to with the content of the video. He’s clearly exempting himself from this masculine ideal.

I agree with Davey. I don’t think that the obsession with sites like Broke Straight Guys helps with a gay cultural identity. Guys who actually like to watch football: Good for you, keep it up! Guys who pretend to like football so that someone will be more attracted to them… try being yourself.

Not sure I agree with DW on this. Are gays/lesbians, as a population, any more self-loathing than the general population?

Certainly those hypocrite closet cases, the Ted Haggards and Larry Craigs of the world, are pathetic self-loathers. But, whether you like/dislike DW, I do not see self-loathing in him. He prances in his videos, embracing his bit of girliness (I find that adorable, many others annoying), is publicly very very OUT. I don’t see any fake machoism, quite the contrary.

For this gay guy, well for sexual desires, I much prefer “manly” guys. Now I know that boys into drag have the biggest balls; truly, you need them to walk down the street in high heals, fishnet stockings, and a bulging Adam’s apple; and many of the “manly” ones are just gym bunnies living a much more quiet life than a drag queen. While I greatly admire a drag queen for their courage to live their life their way, I don’t have a sexual attraction to them.

Per guys who are or are into “Straight Acting” men, okay, there I see self-loathing, particularly guys who are into Mr. Straight Acting. I want Mr. Gay to want me, as I him, because we are gay and we are men. I sure as shit don’t want to hook up with someone who wants me to be his girl substitute nor do I want to have his straight-acted sex.

You know, he makes a fairly good point.

I think it’s important to remember though that it isn’t just other gays who create the environment for self-loathing. We’re told by the entire WORLD from an early age that everything effeminate or soft in a man is weak and maybe evil. And, since our erotic buttons or whatever you want to call them are developed at a young age, it makes sense that those admonitions could find their way into what we find or don’t find attractive. I don’t really know how to fix that, but I know that I want to be a person who doesn’t find someone else less than because they are feminine or non-masculine.

That said, DW actually described why I have problems ever watching him. He’s acting. He’s trying to be for you the thing that he finds attractive. And, that annoys me. In the words of Davey Wavey, “Try not acting.”

Until Queerty finds a *better* social commentater and international reporters, Wavey Davey is our key source on world affairs and what makes the gays tick. I do give him props for his enthusiasm.
