So, we’ve got some good news and some bad news. Which would you like first? The good news? Okay…
The good news is that Logo’s announced plans for a Noah’s Arc movie. That’s right: they’re developing a feature-length script for Noah, Ricky and the gang. Pretty exciting, no? Earlier this morning, The Advocate reported:
The film is currently in development, and the story is expected to pick up after the show’s second-season cliff-hanger finale. The film project, to be released in 2008, opens the possibility for sequels and additional television seasons.
Sounds great, no? Well, don’t get too excited, because it seems the film’s not leading into more seasons of homo misadventure.
Rod 2.0 says that the show’s been canceled. He did a little poking around actor Christian Vincent‘s MySpace page and found this disheartening note: “I have been asked for months about Noah’s Arc returning. There will NOT be a third season.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
We have to admit we’re a little sad about this. We got surprisingly attached to Noah and company. Sure, the show got a little…shall we say…creative with their storylines and some of the acting needed improvement, but where else will we get televised portrayals of black gay men?
Ash
I agree that protrayals of gay black men are sorely needed on television, but I don’t think this show was very helpful. It played into a lot of stereotypes and WAS AN AWFUL SHOW. I watched it once or twice last year and couldn’t handle it. The acting was absolutely atrocious, especially by the lead, Noah, whose breathy rise and fall delivery of every line was enough to make me occasionally puke on my tv. I say good riddens, and let someone get started on a show that portrays gay black men as real people and not poorly written washed-out stereotypes.
Jerry
High five to Ash.
FizziekruntNT
I second that high-five. I’ve never seen worse acting quite frankly. Although, “WHAZZTHEDEGAHGAH?” has me rolling on the floor wetting my pants every time I hear it. It’s a shame it couldn’t have been written, directed, and acted better. Oh, nevermind.
Bryan
I agree. Even though the acting, writing, editing, sets, costumes and directing were bad, i still kind of enjoyed it, surprisingly.
Hopefully it will show that there really is a market for gay black (or generally non-white) people on television. If a show this bad can get through 2 seasons and a movie, how far do you think an honestly good one could go?
Vinman
I also enjoyed the show but never knew why. Probably for the eye candy.
Vee
LOGO has messed up now.
doodoo
Come on. We all really watched it to see what the F Noah was gonna be wearing. BTW did anyone analyze his package in ‘Another Gay Movie’? Jeeezus.
phil
I really enjoyed season one, but simply could not get interested in Season 2. What changed? I don’t know. Me? But I thoroughly enjoyed the first season.

All you people celebrating the demise of this show need a reality check. Whether you like NOAH or not, is not the point. Logo cancelling this show will make it much less likely there will be any other gay black series. Even if this particular show wasn’t your cup of tea, you should have been praying for its success, because when others consider doing a blk gay show, they will look at this and the fact that it was canned after just 2 short seasons as reason to NOT do any other blk gay shows. Networks like HBO or SHOWTIME are not trying to do more gay shows. Showtime has cancelled Queer As Folk. The L Word is done after this season, and Showtime has said they are moving away from niche programming. Translation: no more gay shows! So exactly what network do you think will be doing gay black shows now? Here TV has picked up a small number of DL Chronicle episodes, but Here is even less available than Logo. So anyone viewing Noah’s death as a good thing is delusional. This means no more blk gay shows ever.
Ash
That’s crap. We shouldn’t have to put up with subpar shows just because there is nothing else available. I would rather watch nothing than watch a worthless piece of garbage whose characters happen to be queer. The truth is, the majority of gay-themed movies and shows made are NOT GOOD. After I came out as a lesbian a year and a half ago, I was thrilled to see that I got LOGO at my new apartment. I was addicted, watching everything they showed. But aside from documentaries and the occasional well-done show, the programming was poorly written and stereotypical, because sadly that is all that Hollywood historically has to offer in the form of gay themes. Sure, I watched it all at first because it was a relief to have SOMETHING to relate to as a newly out dyke, but eventually I realized I really couldn’t relate to much. But that doesn’t mean we should put up with it. I loved QAF at first but didn’t even care to finish it by the fourth season because it was so ridiculous and silly. I looooved the L Word but now can’t stand it because of the hideous turns the characters have all taken, and the implausible, laughable storylines. Though, I confess, I still watch it for the hot girl-on-girl action, so it’s a bit of a moot point…But seriously, it is 100% pure bullshit that we should have to support TERRIBLE shows simply because they’re gay. I have faith that we will have positive portrayals someday, but they won’t come about by silently watching BAD TV. And keep in mind that all minority groups, including gays of all ethnicities, and well, straights of all ethnicities too have the same struggle in entertainment with tired stereotypes and lack of representation. I don’t hear you telling ethnic minority groups to put up with racist stereotypes. We need to let go of the internalized homophobia like this and demand fleshed-out, complicate characters who happen to be gay!

Ash:
You miss the point and at the same time you prove my point. It is your opinion (I’m assuming) that this particular show was “crap”. But there are plenty of people who LOVE this show, myself included. So we are mourning its demise.
All I was saying was, even if you hate this show, you should not celebrate or take delight in its cancellation because of what it means for future gay-themed shows. Hollywood follows trends. The industry looks to successes and failures as evidence to support its decisions. So the next time a young black gay filmmaker pitches a tv show focusing on black gay characters, the network will simply say “Well Logo tried that and that blk gay show failed, so we have to pass on your idea. Thanks but no thanks.” I hated QUEER AS WHITE FOLK, but I recognize that this show broke down doors making it possible for other shows to exist.
And you yourself said you don’t like L Word any more, but keep watching for the girl-on-girl action. Well why shouldn’t we have our crappy or mediocre (your words/opinion, not mine) gay show with hot boy-on-boy action?
Just because YOU think something isn’t good enough, doesn’t mean we all share that opinion. But with gay programs, you better believe that the success or failure of one program or movie directly affects whether or not another gay show or movie will get made. And the death of NOAH will make it that much harder for another gay black show to get made. I’m not saying you have to support a show you don’t like, but you should not take delight it its passing.
In fact, I bet we won’t see another one anytime soon…if ever. If that’s a reason to celebrate, then have fun.
Ash
Noah’s Arc IS crap. You may like it because there are cute boy toys and it’s so great to have a minority-within-a-minority represented, blah blah blah. That’s all wonderful, but you’re still not going to convince me that this is a good show, it is actually some of the worst acting I’ve ever seen, and I studied drama at NYU, so I know a little something about bad acting. Har har. And Jonah, to use your own words, just because YOU think something IS good enough doesn’t mean everyone else agrees. Take for example, the many people before your post who agreed with me that Noah is crap. Yes, I watch the L Word because it’s hot but if it were cancelled tomorrow I wouldn’t bat an eye. The show is stupid, unrealistic, and I’m bothered by its tactless handling of a transgender storyline. And if I really want girl-on-girl and you Jonah, really want boy-on-boy, well then go to your local video shop or gee, I don’t know, google “gay cumshot.” And I want to clarify that I’m not celebrating Noah’s demise, I merely stated that I really don’t care. I also think I should note that while people bring up black gay men all the time, no one EVER brings up a lack of black lesbians. In fact, lesbians in general are ignored by the gay community. Look at gay.com, the advocate, QUEERTY; all the major gay websites revolve around gay MEN with the occasional mention of lesbians. Sadly, even in the supposedly progressive gay community, women and racial minorities are still second-class citizens. The head honchos of gay groups, websites, etc are almost without exception WHITE MEN. I think we should focus more on equality within the gay community before we even worry about television. And I stand by my original statement that we should NOT have to put up with shitty television just because we don’t have other choices. I refuse to support crappy portrayals of gays. While I do watch the L word, I don’t ever watch it on Showtime nor have I ever bought the DVDs. I borrow someone else’s copy, if it’s handy, and watch with about a quarter of my attention until some chick jumps another. I’m not giving the L Word any money. The reason queer shows keep tanking is not because they’re queer but because they’re stupid. It’s the same reason many straight shows fail. Frankly I think you’re being naive about the whole situation, Jonah. Whether or not you and a coupla other ‘mos support Noah’s Arc is not going to change the face of television. That’s reality.
