We know it’s only April, but the parent of the year award may have to go to the mother of this adorable boy.
Tangela Washington recently shared some photos of her 5-year-old son, Sir, modeling his homemade fashions. And we’ve got to say — the kid’s got something.
But equally admirable is the way Tangela, in a post now shared over 30k times, writes about encouraging her son to dive into his budding passions:
Our son, Sir, is 5 yrs old. He has been particular about what he wears and how it fits since he was 2 and a half. He began to show interest in designing clothes and then asking us to show him how to sew at 4. He is now creating and sewing (by hand) his own creations. He always models his designs “so I know how they’ll look” he says. We may have the next iconic fashion designer of all times on our hands! Take a look!
Well you heard the woman — take a look:
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

Well, he needs to learn about accessories. The frock is interesting and forms a nice sillouhette, but it clearly needs something in the back. The belt has a different style to it and doesn’t match the frock at all, but I see where he is going with it by breaking the rules. I think if he had time to design shoes and a purse, he would have been able to pull it together in a unique and fabulous way.

Whattakid!!! Whattamom!!! I’d write more, but I have something in my eye that’s making things blurry right now……

@rand503: You know you are wrong for schooling this baby, LOL! So talented to be so young, and so wonderful that his mother is so supportive. I wish every gay person had loving, supportive parents like her.
Darnell Hill
I pray that his light is never dimmed. Unleash this kind of good spirited, positive affirmation onto the World……and watch it get better. Kudos to MOM for helping him see how bright he shines.
Tackle
This is wonderful! Thank you @Dan for presenting him. And his mom is so accepting…

Taught to sew at 4 and sewing by hand at 5. A little child confidently and correctly using a needle and thread? That is the very definition of gifted and talented. Sweet kid.
Peggy M.e. Postma
I love his walk, it is absolutely darling…..and he is not shy either…..!
Bob LaBlah
@Kangol: Just curious but did you also notice how that desk and chair were his size as well? I don’t think I care for this. Five years old is too young for a boy to be COACHED on how to prance like a queen. She is clearly coaching him on and there is where this video got all the more sick.
Invert
@Bob LaBlah: is it any more appropriate for a 5 year old boy to be COACHED to walk like a man? You sound a little heteronormative.
Bob LaBlah
@Invert: But the little BOY was NOT being COACHED to walk like a MAN, was he? I wonder in todays homophobic world what will happen to him once he hits first grade as for relationships with other little boys and what their parents think of this COACHING for him to be something he is simply TOO young to even know about.
I am sure you have a defense for that and I am waiting for it.

there is an up and coming artist among us…salute!!

He is too precious!!! And talented for such a young age. @BobLaBlah, no one is coaching. If the boy did not feel right or comfortable he would let his mom know in his five year old way. He obviously knows what HE likes at 5 years of age. I see big things in his future.

Yep! We’ve got the designer of the year alright!
Plus the best cat walker award!

@Bob LaBlah: what will happen to him in first grade? He will be teased, bullied, ostracised and excluded by kids who were taught by their parents to be something THEY should be too young to know about- being homophobes.
I certainly knew how to prance like a queen when I was five without being coached and without probably ever having seen a gay man prance before. I used to put on spectacular drag shows, complete with lip synching to Judy Garland or Barbra Streisand. I was so good at drag and loved it so much that my very conservative Polish catholic grandmother sewed me a dress and gave it to me for Christmas when I was 3. Gay people really are born gay- jut some of us are born more fabulous than others. Sorry you missed out on the delight of being a little queen that grew into a big one.
tonylovesotis
Best Queerty so far. Hugs to mom & Sir.
Bob LaBlah
@tonylovesotis: “Sorry you missed out on the delight of being a little queen that grew into a big one.”
Considering how you grew up and got no further than a commenter on Queerty it doesn’t appear I missed out on much. At five I was walking in the field with my dad and brothers handing them shotgun shells while they shot ducks and taking the ducks out of the mouths of the dog when he fetched them out of the water. As you grew up in the city prancing around in dresses I grew up in country sunshine.

I love this little kid. Yes life is going to be hard for him, but at least he has a family that supports who he his. I could never tell a kid I won’t teach him or her a skill because it belongs to another gender. When I was his age I was fascinated with cooking, expecially baking. It was something a lot of my family members looked down on. By first grade I could make biscuits from scratch.
@Invert: I was teased in first grade and beyond and I didn’t walk that way. I was just different and kids noticed. I think it’s much better to teach Sir to be comfortable in his own skin, to accept himself, and how to throw a punch. Dad knew I was queer and tossed me into martial arts at 5, best thing he ever did for me.

@Bob LaBlah: I’m sorry – I don’t see any evidence of coaching. What makes you believe he was coached? Other than some internal prejudice perhaps? We placed no expectation on our daughters, we did nothing to reinforce any image on them – the first time I took the older one to a toy store she ran to the baby dolls – mind you she will also play with toy trucks and trains, but she is very feminine, so is our younger one – BUT, at no time did we try to enforce any of it. Children have feelings, the boundaries you set as a parent should only relate to behavior (morality, ethics, things that MATTER) other than that the child will lead the way – and you just love them and care for them.
you sir, I’m quite sure have hangups – probably based in your own youth. Let them go. This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius – and people really are changing. Fast now.
Regards.

WOW that kid’s faces. SO Zoolander LOL Hehe.. too cute. love the sass

@Bob LaBlah: I’m Aussie and didn’t grow up in the city. We’re BOTH commenters on Queerty, don’t throw stones in glass houses. And your pride over hunting is contemptible but ill try not to hold it against you in future. Thanks for posting that song by Dottie West though, I enjoyed it a lot.
@Scribe38: By the time I got to school I knew how to walk like a normal boy as well as sashay like a goddess and knew when it was appropriate to do so. I was singled out because I was evidently gay- not because of my mannerisms but because of my innate, undisguisable…gayness, there’s no other word for it. However, I had a violent drunk for a Dad and a brother who was 4 years older than me who was crazy violent so I learned how to fight from an early age. When I got picked on and bullied for being the school fag I broke noses. I want going to stand for that crap.

@Invert: Can’t ol’ Dottie Mae blow fresh air into your mind as you listen to her singing that song? She left us too soon, bless her. Glad you enjoyed it. Take care honey, or as ya’ll say down there “g’day, mate.”

I’m so happy for him..that his parents are excepting and nurturing…
Joyce Bass
Bravo!
Jonathan Hemrich
Such bad parenting!!! And people wonder why there are stereotypes! And people also wonder why we kids get picked on! It’s ridiculous shame on those parents!
April Kovatch-Emerick
bad parenting to encourage creativity? Is this a boy/girl thing? You suck.
Jonathan Hemrich
Well I’m talking about him being in a dress! Be creative? Do you have to wear a dress to be creative? No! You can be creative without wearing a dress! This is why people are confused about their gender because of parenting like this!!!
Carl Reid
your retarded let the kid be a kid!!! Lol but looking at your profile I bet you did get your ass kicked a lot as a kid!!!!
Jonathan Hemrich
Carl Reid no I didn’t! My parents we’re good! And they taught me a lot! Obviously this kid’s parents aren’t teaching him anything! Quit being disrespectful! It’s not very classy!
Brigitte Mitchell-Da Silva
Get a life dude. I guess you’ve never been allowed to be who you wanted to be. Let go of your small minded upbringing.
Brigitte Mitchell-Da Silva
And also. Don’t reply or follow these free thinker post. You’re not ready for it. Don’t comment on post that are too complicated for you to understand. Just shut up and live your small minded life
Jonathan Hemrich
Brigitte Mitchell-Da Silva you have no clue what you’re talking about! I was raised by wonderful parents! I have enough sense to know that men do not wear dresses! I’m winning because you are resorting to personal attacks and disrespect! Obviously you have the small upbringing!
Brigitte Mitchell-Da Silva
Wow. I have many great friends who like wearing dresses. They choose a life that is theirs. We have no right to judge. Respect people for who they are as long as they don’t hurt others or themselves. Most my guy friends are gay and it saddens me that people like you keep passing such thoughtless comments on how they are supposed to be. They did not ask God to be gay. They were born that way. Show some love and respect. Keep your opinions to yourself. It’s hurtful not just to them by to the people who love them. I come from a very loving home. None of whom are gay. My dad is a minister of a church. I grew up in he church. I was shown love and respect. Therefore I wish to show every living being and creature just that. Peace be with you Jonathan.
Jonathan Hemrich
FYI Brigitte Mitchell-Da Silva I’m a Gay man too! I’m not judging anyone! I’m stating a fact! That’s it! Peace be with you Brigitte!

He is too young for anyone to predict the outcome.
He could be just playing around and mimicking.
or he could be transgender.

@Bob LaBlah: ha ha “g’day” means hello, it’s a shortened form of “good day” as in “good day Sir/Madam”.
……which is weird that it’s just used for greetings as “good day” is also used in Britain as a way of saying goodbye.
Is “take care” mostly a southern goodbye? I imagine you with a southern drawl for some reason, especially when combined with “honey”. Like “take care y’all”.

Keep up the positive encouragement Mummy. We’re raising confident young people to stand up against the small minded morons of today’s society. Keep it Real!! Show the Love.

@Bob LaBlah: I think you’ve addressed your reply to the wrong person. At least I hope so.
Bob LaBlah
@tonylovesotis: I don’t see your reasoning in your comment. Are you saying someone “put me in my place?” I don’t get it. Please explain further. And tell ol’ Otis I said hello. Or G’day, if you will.
@Invert: “I imagine you with a southern drawl for some reason, especially when combined with “honey”. Like “take care y’all”.”
Maybe this will help you understand my “southern drawl.” Ya’ll take now, hear? I gotta go out and change a few of the Christmas lights on my front porch. A few of them blew out.

tonylovesotis
@Bob LaBlah: you’ve confused me with another person in the comments list. All I said was “Hugs to Mom & Sir”. Moreover, I have no southern drawl mate, I’m from Broken Hill, NSW.
Bob LaBlah
@tonylovesotis: It sounds like you signed in under a different name and forgot. But anyway, its all in fun as far as I am concerned. Regardless of my response I take none of the comments personally. Take care.
