Kevin Czartoryski, the NYPD detective who acted as a liaison between the police force and the city’s gays, died Sunday after a battle with lung disease. He was 46. A NYPD medical board concluded Czartoryski developed the lung disorder pulmonary fibrosis due to exposure at Ground Zero, where he was among those who searched for the fallen after 9/11. A lung transplant did not alleviate his ailments. He retired last year on disability.
He was a great, dedicated and professional Police Officer. And funny to boot! Proud to have been friends with him for over 20 years.
