As a gay muslim, I’ve been waiting for something like this for a long time. But sometimes it creeps me out how other gay people are obsessing over it.

I’m sorry, but that title, “A Jihad for Love”, is almost comically absurd. It sounds like something from South Park.

In any case, I really, really want to see this film! I detest Islam more than any other form of organised religion, but I’m open to being wrong about it and I’ll have an open mind when watching this.

I haven’t seen the film but from reading the reviews have, I think, got the gist – which is that western gay notions of gay liberation/equality are not possible within muslim cultures – basically because gay muslims won’t give up on the insidious ideology that is islam.

That is to say islam fucks with your head does islam and causes a vast amount of self loathing for gay muslims.

Honestly guys, give it up, forget islam.

· …… : Nothing to get creep out about unless you’re in one of those muslim countries. By the way love the attempt at anonymity even in the Internet, guess you’re in one of those countries :) .

Heard the director was excited about showing it in a muslim country and to a “non-white audience” in Turkey. Well I hope he also gets to show it in Iran, Egypt and Saudi Arabia to mention a few and that he gets to keep his head intact.

Actually, yes I hadn’t noticed the attempt at anonymity by our muslim contributor!

Point proven methinks! Islam fucks the head

I have e-mailed them several times – they won’t rent, sell or tell me when it is coming to Michigan. I’v contacted the local film festival group and they’re looking into it but they gave different info than when I spoke to the distributors in New York. So, see it IF you can!

I meant they don’t respond to e-mails. So good luck trying to see this.

I saw this film while it was playing in New York; it was beautiful and fascinating. As for the title, once you see the film and understand the struggle–which is the literal meaning of “jihad”–of the subjects in reconciling their sexuality with their faith, the title makes perfect sense.

There was an article in the Village Voice about this, too.
