Chile’s Sen. Fulvio Rossi, head of the Socialist party, says he’ll introduce a bill to legalize same-sex marriage, which is really just a way for Chile to play catch-up to Argentina. That, and to keep its gays from leaving the country to marry: Among Argentina’s first gay couples to marry were a pair from Rossi’s homeland. Now good luck getting President Sebastian Pinera to sign off on this.

Pinera supported marriage during his run, — he even featured a gay couple in one of his ads. Likewise, the Broad Front in Uruguay also promised gay marriage if they won, — which they did back in 09, and yet have failed to thus introduce a bill. Hopefully they’ll keep their promise.
By the end of the year, let’s hope we have three (or more) marriage equality countries in Latin America.

Piñera supported “civil union”, so that marriage would never come up. Using the “marriage is beetwen a man and a woman that join to have a family, something that gays can’t do” BS.
Most people in Chile would only tolerate a “civil union” law, and even the ones who accept marriage say that gay-adoption would mean the end of society.
I’m happy for Argentina, but their law was mostly a political move from the president party. The country it’s corrupted as hell, just go to Argentina and ask anyone. People know what’s wrong but have no political party to trust.

@Carlos: @Carlos: Political corruptions compared to what? the US? Have you taken a look at who is in control of bills here lately? Most of it comes down to the fox guiding the bill through congress. IN other words, most of our legislation is written by lobbist who work for the industry that the legislation is designed to regulate. So, you do the math.

They should have been more on the ball while Bachelet was still in office. The new guy is a conservative.
