Clay Aiken + Reed Kelly Split, According to MySpace Relationship Status
After two-plus years together, have Clay Aiken and Broadway actor (and sometimes clothes-taker-off-er) Reed Kelly split?
So says Kelly’s MySpace profile, which a tipster points out was changed to “single.” And what song is he listening to? Christina Aguilera’s “”You Lost Me,” which goes “She has won / Now its no fun / We’ve lost it all / The love is gone. And we had magic / And this is tragic / You couldn’t keep your hands to yourself. I feel like our world’s been infected / And somehow you left me neglected.” Should we infer that’s an accusation of cheating? Should we assume Clay will turn this all into a power ballad?
I’m a fan of both guys, and I’m sorry it didn’t work out. Reed did post the Christina song and I Will Always Love You for one day. Earlier today, he changed it to Claire de Lune(he’s a big Twilight fan.) Last I heard, Clay was still on Reed’s FB friends list. So, who knows what the deal is?

Not surprising. Clay is a quiet, stay at home kind of guy whereas Reed liked the night life with lots of people around him. Oil and water. I wish them both happiness in the future. They are both nice and decent people, just not meant for each other.

I don’t thank a song necessarily means anything. Anyway, the song on that myspace linked is Clair DeLune, so if their was another song there, it must not have meant too much. There is always two sides to a story. It’s between Clay and Reed, and if Reed is talking publicly about his relationship and/or breakup with Clay, then he isn’t the kind of guy Clay needs, anyway. They are both nice guys. Clay is more of a homebody while Reed is more a show-off body. Clay keeps his private life private and no one will probably ever read his thoughts anywhere while Reed has chosen the path to be more public. As for the songs, sounds like a drama queen to me.

This is news because???? From what I have read, both young men are great guys. They seemed to make each other happy. If they are no longer together then they have joined the ranks of most of the world. Almost everyone has had a break-up in their life.

No. 41 – Reed didn’t post anything. All he did was change his status and change his song. He has not posted anything as a comment.
I don’t see anything wrong with what he did. Perhaps it conveys an intended message or maybe something just resonated in the music in his life right now. I don’t see Reed as the type of guy to go out and start granting interviews or anything. This is really a minor thing and considering how well he has dealt with everything that seems to come along with dating Clay Aiken, I am willing to let him have this moment to express himself. Maybe he felt like he didn’t want people to think he was trying to deceive them. Should he have not changed his relationship status to save face for both of them and then end up looking like a cheater when a picture surfaces of him dating another guy?

Elle….all Reed had to do was change his status and leave the song lyrics out of it. Many Clay fans have known they were not ‘together’ for at least six weeks. Now we have John Paulus peeing his pants because Reed provided him an opportunity to diss Clay. AND JP was dissed by Reed ages ago when JP tried to become Reed’s friend on his My Space. First of all, I am in the Broadway community and I know Reed personally. I know a huge majority aren’t going to like what I have to say but here goes.
If Clay Aiken had done to me what he did to Reed after all of the devotion that boy put forth to both that relationship, to Clay’s son and even more to that man, I would be doing more than adding a song or two to my myspace.
Reed is a very classy and “high-road” type of guy and I give him credit for doing such a minor thing after Clay embarrassed Reed the way he did with his actions. They weren’t just private things either. We knew what was going down throughout the BWay community, but Reed stuck by him and loved him regardless.
Those of us on the inside know what really went down, so easy with getting your claws out at Reed when he was truly the one who was constantly standing up for Clay and trying to make it work again and again through all of Clay’s habitual indiscretions.
Clay is a great guy, but I don’t feel he is ready nor yet does he deserve someone as special as Reed at this time. I think someday he will be though and I will be happy for him when he finally gets there.
(Now I’m not looking forward to hear the screeching that is going to follow when I click submit, but I HAD to say somehing)

I would like to know how everybody has so much to say about two people who were hardly together. Reed was in Europe, on tour, and then opted to stay after the tour was over. Clay was in the states. It really never ‘looked’ to me like either was all in love and stuff. I never got that vibe.

When Reed found out about this he was crushed. So yes, let’s talk about what was happening that summer while Reed was in France if you really want to go there.

Seriously … I’m in the business too and have worked with one and hung out with the other at gatherings. There are probably going to be plenty of gay people who read this blog who have similar experiences to this leading to having more information on the topic than some random fan that lives in the midwest somewhere. Lucy, I take back the bitch comment, it was uncalled for. I just honestly am saying that I really do know Reed and he really has been through a lot of hell with this one. People can believe me or not about any of it, I don’t really care. I just get protective of my friend.
Reed maintains to everyone that Clay has a ton of redeeming qualities and is nothing but sweet in everything he says about him. It has just been hard to watch him go though stuff when Clay says that he wants to be with him, Reed stays with him and then he goes and does things that are not in keeping with that. Reed is caring and compassionate and sometimes I feel that is his downfall. Reed was with Ray Leeper for seven years and then Ray cheated on him. Reed still stuck it our for a great deal of time to try and make it work because that’s the kind of guy he is.
In the end though sometimes there are trust issues that you cannot overcome. It is common in gay culture and is sad.
As far as the picture goes on Clay and that guy, they tried to say it was a nephew of Jamyes or something and honestly that was simply not the case. There was a huge blow up about this when it hit.

This picture was taken over the July 4th weekend. Reed looks very happy to me. And I agree with the comment upthread about Reed being half naked and hanging all over guys in lots of pictures. Word is that Reed is the frisky one. Reed is a free spirit and never seemed all head over heels in love with Clay to me.

These are the last things I will say without giving up too much information to prove that I truly do know Reed. I am aware that people have know about Ray for a long time, but what most people don’t know is that Reed and Ray still own three properties together. An apartment in NY, a house in Pasadena and land Wisconsin next to Reed’s parents 300 acre horse ranch. (I’ll bet that last bit has not been in the tabloids or on the web so I hope you know understand that I am not a poser.) Take that back to your “sources” and check out those facts and you’ll find them to be true. Believe what you will, but Reed is a great guy and still speaks very highly of both Clay and Ray even after everything he went through with both of them.

How is walking down a street with someone being unfaithful? Even if he did go out with the guy, Reed was gone for months to France and then ended up staying there after the Mylene tour was over. Not exactly a way to keep a relationship going. Out of sight, out of mind as they say.
I also don’t like that you said the way the fans have treated Reed. He’s been treated very well by the fans, is well liked and has gathered a lot of fans from Clay. Most of the fans feel badly that he was hurt. Some are a little upset he brought this breakup out into the public arena because we were afraid of exactly this happening and Reed should have known that it would too. So fans are a little ticked at him, but no one is hating on him. He’s a great guy. I hope he finds someone who appreciates and loves him.

Another interesting point is that John Paulus Blog has been adamant from the time Reed surfaced that Reed was not a real BF to Clay but paid to ‘escort’ Clay while Clay worked on his image. There was ‘insider’ information on this. That would put Clay and Reed in a contractual relationship where neither was required to be faithful. Now the contract is up for several reasons. I know that some say there are more important things to discuss, but there is a lesson learned here regardless of whether you are gay or straight. When it comes to matters of the heart, we are all basically the same. We are just human and all want love in our lives, and when it ends it can hurt like hell. Clay and Reed will deal with the pain in their own way and who are we to lay blame on one or the other since we don’t know anything? I guess the amount of comments on this subject just reflects the rarity of discussing an actual relationship between two gay guys who loved one another ending and how it affects us all in one way or another simply because we can ALL identify with the feeling emotionally. These are both great guys and whichever contributed the most to the breakup will have the added burden of pain and regret in mistakes made and hopefully learns a valuable lesson. I don’t believe either should be judged or ridiculed!

Believe me or not, I do happen to know Reed as a friend & former coworker & know enough about the couple to say that they really were in love & the break-up was pretty much mutual due to distance & careers & all the obstacles that brings to the table. Clay was always really sweet with Reed & Reed was a loving partner. Whatever details happened at the end I know not, but to say that Clay was a habitual cheater just does not conform with reality. Whomever said that Clay was a homebody & Reed liked to party has touched on a pretty basic difference in personality that ensured this wouldn’t last. But it was a lovely relationship while it lasted to all who witnessed it.

Watching the actions of the 2 of them over the past nearly 3 years, it’s clear that Kelly is quite the exhibitionist while Aiken is fiercely private. That does not bode well for a lasting relationship. I’ve seen people from all walks of life take potshots at Aiken & he never responds in kind. Even a past Idol pal who used him for all she could get dumped him very publicly when he balked at a joint venture she proposed. He’s never dissed her, in fact, still promotes her albums & career! Yet she continues to backstab him in interviews. To see a former lover take her low road is sad, but typical. Guarantee you Aiken will never diss Kelly out loud & probably will urge his fans to support Kelly’s career, just as he did an ex-employee he had to fire who publicly dissed Aiken in return. Aiken always behaves with class & kindness in these situations & the other parties end up showing their true childish colors for the world to see. It looks like the most basic reason for this breakup is that one party is mature & discreet & the other, younger one is decidedly not.

Okay….I am a Clay Aiken fan. I love his voice and I love who he is. Me…I honestly got totally uber sick of seeing Reed Kelly’s naked body all over Clay Aiken’s fan sites. Whatever happened between Nekkid Boy and Clay doesn’t matter to me. Okay–I am definitely not a regular here…I am one of those awful Clay fans who google to see what he is up to…and I found this site. I do not know Reed…I am not his friend on facebook or myspace. I DID meet him on the street in Raleigh the day after the PBS special…and he seemed very down to earth, and when I returned home I sent him a message telling him that I was glad I had the chance to meet him, because as a Clay fan, I worried that his flashier lifestyle would make him an unusual partner for Clay(not that it was any of my business…but I sometimes get a little ‘motherly’ when it comes to Clay) Reed kindly responded to my message.

If there were just the two of them to consider, then maybe, (or maybe not)..the relationship would survive…but when there is a child involved, you need to see the bigger picture…you need people in your child’s life whose lifestyle is appropriate for a child to share.
