We’ve been fans of Mexican actors Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal since they played sexually adventurous youths in Y Tu Mamá También. Turns out the guys have been amigos since adolescence, when they co-starred in the telenovela El Abuelo Y Yo.
Now they’re working on a new collaboration: directing a pair of interconnected short films about three friends who reunite after some time apart. Garcia Bernal and Luna’s production company, Canana Films, has teamed up with Chivas on the project: Each actor will shoot one part, with Luna’s debuting January 28 and García Bernal’s on February 18.
“This is the first time Diego and I have worked together is this way – directing a film each, which work in succession as part of the same story,” says Garcia Bernal. We have different directorial styles so it will be interesting to see how that comes across, interpreting this story with the same characters.”
