A new British ad for Snickers debuted this week and features two of our favorite things: Dynasty divas and rugby players! In the new spot, Joan Collins gets to be bitchy with some hunky ruggers as well as with fellow Dynasty diva Stephanie Beacham. Back in the ’80s, they played TV rivals Alexis Carrington and Sable Colby (uh, drag name anyone?) and were the evil witches at the core of Dynasty and its spinoff, The Colbys. Collins, who is pushing 80, looks fab in a ridiculous blue gown she sports in the team’s locker room, and Beacham,who is 64, looks svelte in a sexy, silver number.
This diva-filled spot is similar to one featuring Liza Minnelli and Aretha Franklin that ran during last year’s Oscar telecast. The Collins/Beacham one was made solely for UK consumption, but we hope Snickers makes a similar play to the gays when they release their commercial for next month’s Academy Awards telecast.

No Linda Evans because it’s playing only in the UK and these two women are both British. Makes total sense.

Erm, for the record, the sportsmen are football (read soccer) players…the strips are not rugby strips, joan calls them footballers, and you don’t score goals in rugby, you score trys.
Oh and since when were rugby players called “Ruggers”…rugger is a snobbish term referring to the game, not the players…Rugger Buggers, perhaps, but not ruggers!

In Germany we get to see that clip as well, but unfortunately minus the Beacham part at the end. Just like the Aretha Franklyn clip. I didn’t know that originally it contained Minelli as well.

Ruggers are a term for rugby players. I play rugby here in Canada and we are called ruggers all the time and it isnt dergoatory.
