THE SHOT — Sometimes Google’s auto-correct feature misses the mark. (Thanks, Travon!)
Exactly as Tazz602 and Chrispey say. If you ignore the apostrophe, you’re misspelling “can’t”. At that point, Google has to guess one way or the other whether you left out the apostrophe or added a ‘t’. Either way, it’s going to be wrong a significant portion of the time.
Logically, it probably makes more sense to go with “can”, since that covers not only one of the two contradictory statements, but also the question “can homosexuality be cured?” Since most people search to get answers to questions, that’s probably more important anyway.
This is hands down the most ridiculous panic post on Queerty in a long time, and that’s saying something.

are you guys serious? How could you, like SCHTEVE said, not see this as anything more than something to laugh at?? I swear gays can be some of the most uptight people in the world. No need to disect googles formulation strategy, just fucking laugh for a minute. Loosen ur assholes and take a break for crying out loud.

I have been more worried by what happens when you just type in “Homosexuality” , which is what most parents would do as soon as their teenager come out to them, and you get this is the top 3 searches! http://www.conservapedia.com/Homosexuality
Uhhhhh… WTF!

Google’s search algorithm looks at the number of links going to a page (with a weighting based on the number of links going to the page where a link was found). Your comment just added another link. and bumped the conservapedia page up a notch.

This is exactly what Obama’s folks did with Google. Its time for a new search engine when google can be manipulated so easily. Remember when Jeff from Flipping Out realized his business partner was manipulating google searches to direct inquiries for Jeff to Ryan’s design office? It just takes the money.
