Gay Football Trailblazer Aslie Pitter Added To The Queen’s VIP List

Aslie Pitter, one of Britain’s first founders of a gay football team (he helped create Stonewall FC nearly two decades ago), will be honored, was appointed a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for his efforts to fight homophobia. “Being black and being gay I thought I might come in for a lot of stick. In our first game we were sharing a communal shower with seven other teams and I was pretty nervous. But it has never really been a problem.”

A positive story about a gay black man, being honored for his efforts to combat homophobia, and mine is the first and only response. How sad, yet expected.
