GLAAD Urges NHL To Re-Consider Whether Sean Avery Is A ‘Copulating Homosexual’

Yesterday the National Hockey League decided not to fine Philadelphia Flyers’ Wayne Simmonds for calling New York Rangers’ Sean Avery a “fucking faggot”. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation have now started a petition asking the NHL to take a second look at the video where Simmonds pretty much mouths the words “fucking faggot” after his tussle with Avery. Perhaps they should hire professional lip readers and renowned linguist Professor Henry Higgins to determine just what Simmonds said.

What’s odd is that this is getting no coverage, but the guy who threw a banana at Simmonds is an international news story. Apparently, perceived potential racism, when I’m not even sure why it’s being considered racially charged, is a bigger deal than being rather unsportsmanlike and using that word that sends a chill up my spine every time I hear it.

Well, come on. It should be pretty obvious. It’s not a shame that that’s getting attention, even if it is a shame that the “fucking faggot” thing isn’t.
