Apparently backtracking on an October statement that some 3,000 layoffs will not affect USA Today, the newspaper conglomerate Gannett, which publishes 86 different titles, is slashing some 2,000 new jobs. Of note to Queerty readers, San Francisco-based reporter Janet Kornblum is said to have been axed. Kornblum is the byline attached to USA Today‘s recent GLBT coverage, including the California Prop 8 protests and their planning, the lawsuits hoping to invalidate the amendment, and the death of then-newly married gay activist Del Martin. GLAAD has recognized Kornblum’s work as among the best in national news coverage of gay issues.

Is it egocentric to respond to a post…about you? Probably. But a friend pointed this out and it warms my heart. Truly. Alas, it is true. But hey, I ain’t dead. I hope to pursue a fabulous freelancing career and am interested in all kinds of stories, including, of course those involving the GLBT community. So feel free to write me at [email protected]. @Janet Kornblum: Honey why worry about appearance when they publicly announce you just got laid off.
Besides, in this economy I wouldn’t blame you if you pasted your resume too.
Good luck!
