But really, what powerful woman in Washington hasn’t been accused of being a lesbian? Condoleezza Rice, Harriet Miers, Janet Napolitano, Janet Reno—they’ve all at one time or another been the victim of whisper campaigns about their sexuality. And of course there’s Hillary Clinton. Wingnuts have been accusing the Secretary of State of secretly lusting after women for decades now. Surely, men haven’t entirely been spared such campaigns. The reclusive, lifelong bachelor, retired Justice David Souter has often been the subject of speculation, but he was lucky enough to be nominated before the advent of the Drudge Report. And for years rumors have dogged Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who serves on the Judiciary Committee that will be vetting Kagan.
—Stephanie Mencimer, noting the cogitation about Elena Kagan’s sexuality is really just a rite of passage for the Supreme Court nominee — though it could all be cleared up if Jeffrey Toobin would just say whether Kagan brought a lady friend to his wedding [via]

Why even spend time speculating on the woman’s sexuality. All that matters in this job or any other civil service career, is that the individual is going to do the right thing. With service and justice for all. Who cares who’s zooming who! Think about it. PEACELUVNBWILD!

@The Artist: People are speculating because the White House denied that she was gay. They invited it.

@AndrewW: That DOESN’T mean that everyone should jump on the bandwagon. Be a leader, not a follower. PEACE!
