We’ve been waiting to see how far Rep. Jason Chaffetz’s pledge to repeal D.C.’s gay marriage law would go. And now, some answers. In the form of two U.S. senators and a whopping 39 House Republicans.
And, LOL, yes, Michelle Bachmann’s name is on here.
Thirty-nine congressional Republicans, including House Minority Leader John Boehner (Ohio) and Minority Whip Eric Cantor (Va.), have filed an amicus brief in D.C. Superior Court calling for a voter referendum on whether to legalize same-sex marriage in the District.
In the filing, U.S. senators James Inhofe (Okla.) and Roger Wicker (Miss.) and 37 House Republicans align with Bishop Harry Jackson, pastor of Hope Christian Church, in asking the court to reverse a D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics decision prohibiting the same-sex marriage question to be put before voters.
“Under the United States Constitution, they serve as members of the ultimate legislative authority for the District of Columbia and the very body which delegated to the District its limited legislative power under home rule,” the filing states. “As members of the District’s ultimate legislative body, amici are concerned about the extent of the District’s delegated legislative authority, the preservation of Congress’s constitutional authority, and the interpretation of home rule.”

These same people won’t let District residents have the right to have voting representation in Congress.

I personally will not purchase anything from any state that has a representative that is against us. I like the internet since it gives me alot of choices and hitting the states in the pocket book is the best way to get their attention. Especially in the states where we suppposedly covet.

I’m sure it is still collecting more signatures, but I’m still surprised that so far only this many have signed on.
I wonder if any conservative democrats will sign on as well, as means of assuring their social conservative values to their red districts.

@ksu499: Unless, of course, DC agrees to give up all its gun control laws. Because, you know, the gang of the month really needs some more fully automatic weapons on the street right now.
I love the whole “the preservation of Congress’s constitutional authority” bit. Hey, never mind all the people who live there, Congress needs to maintain some authority. Maybe they should start with credibility, and go from there.

Hey, if you want DC residents to have the “right to vote” for Congressional or Senate seats, just put all of the DC voters in Maryland or Virginia.
It is not fair to the REST of the country for the residents of DC to water down our votes. The population is not that big, and many of them are on welfare, or otherwise dependant on government.
The public is AGAINST “Gay Marriage” folks. It is entirely possible to be BOTH “tolerant” of other lifestyles and politically, to be opposed to “gay marriage” — grow up!
There are lots of reasonable gays who do not think “Gay Marriage” is worth fighting for.
