Levi’s Is Quietly Supporting Gay Marriage. Is That Even a Big Deal Anymore?

levisknot

The jeanswear company is outfitting window and in-store mannequins in some 20 shops with the White Knot ribbons, the oh-so-trendy way of wearing support for same-sex marriage on your sleeve. Criticisms of the white knot itself aside, what’s significant is that Levi’s supporting same-sex marriage is, well, barely significant. Perhaps because this isn’t new territory for the company (a regular player in gay marketing, Levi’s cut deals with the Logo channel and Focus Features’ Milk), or perhaps because companies coming out for the gays is no longer the a-ha moment it once was. In fact, actively not supporting GLBTs is more worthy of inches in the New York Times. (Photo: NYT)

politics aside, I’ve always loved Levi’s. I think they are due for a renaissance pretty soon.

Yeah right, let’s shove aside supporters, because they’ve been supporting us for a long time and therefore it’s not “special” enough to acknowledge…

Assholes…

Yeah right, let’s shove aside supporters because they’re not special enough and have been supporting us for too long.

@Kamikapse:
Haven’t you heard? That’s the Queerty way: It’s only worth posting if it’s negative. Oh, wait. Unless you are a muscled model. If you have a six pack, you can do no wrong.

I don’t understand this post at all.

Are you saying that there’s no need to uphold and be proud of people/companies that show support for good causes?

I hope that’s not what you’re saying because that’d be ridiculous.

It’d really be news if it were Levi Johnston supporting gay marriage.

Levis? Been doin it for years. Boring. Absolut? Only in it for the money and the fancy rainbows. Red Stripe? Sorry, you happen to be from Jamaica.

Glee? So You Think You Can Dance? American Idol? You’re from FOX! We love you!

Why does Queerty continue to demonize companies that love gays and faun over those that hate us?

Do we now suck so much as a community that we belittle the efforts of our supporters? If so, then I guess we deserve what we get.
