People are absolutely mad about British popsters, The Pipettes.
Perhaps we’re all feeling a bit nostalgic for the more effervescent, innocent days of the early 1960s, when The Ronettes and other wholesome girl groups dominated the aural arena. Nostalgia or no, it’s hard to resist The Pipettes’ sugary rock.
Above you’ll find the video for their smash single, “Pull Shapes” and after the jump you can feast your ears on “Judy”, both of which can be found on their first full-length, We Are The Pipettes, which makes its US debut this summer. If you like what you hear, check out the ladies’ website.
molotov
Somewhat of a cute song, but way too contrived in that Spice Girls-sort-of-way. The 80s polka dot thing is pretty predictable. However, loved the video hommage to “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.” The songs that are actually in that movie are a much better grade of schlock pop than the song in this video. Too bad the group didn’t tackle one of those.
Junk Thief
Oh, lighten up, Molotov. Over analyzing the Pipettes is like talking too much Proustian psychobabble at that groovy party in the video.
The Pipettes are great fun. They are touring the U.S. this month, and I hope the take the nation by storm.
