PHOTOS: Last week, Schmackary’s Cookies hosted “Broadway Bakes;” a special benefit for Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS. When Schmackary’s owner, Zachary “Schmackary” Schmahl, announced his bakery would donate half the proceeds and all tips generated from this event to BCEFA as part of this special pre-Tony Awards “Thank You Broadway” event, the stars came out of the woodwork.
“We just celebrated the 1st birthday of our Schmackary’s store and one of the biggest reasons for our success is because Broadway and the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood have supported us from day one,” said Schmahl. “In a small token of appreciation, we want to say thank you to this wonderful community for embracing us with open arms.”
The “Broadway cookie bakers” included Seth Rudetsky (Seth’s Broadway Chatterbox), Laura Osnes (Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, 2013 Tony nominee), Jeremy Jordan (Newsies & Smash, Tony nominee), Annaleigh Ashford (Kinky Boots, 2013 Tony nominee), Stark Sands (Kinky Boots, 2013 Tony nominee), Lilla Crawford (Annie), Ryan Steele (Matilda, Newsies), Celia Keenan-Bolger (Peter and the Star Catcher, Tony nominee) and Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Newsies, Tuck Everlasting).
