Rabbi Says Hurricane Sandy Was God’s Wrath Against Gay Marriage

An orthodox rabbi is jumping on the bigotry bandwagon and claiming the devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy is “divine justice” for New York State passing marriage equality last year.

Guess God’s been too busy for the past 16 months, huh?

In a radio chat about same-sex marriage with nutball New York Senate candidate Neil DiCarlo, Rabbi Noson Leiter claimed there was “great theological implications” to Sandy and reminded listeners that “the Great Flood in the time of Noah was… triggered by the recognition of same-gender marriages.”

Funny, we don’t remember hearing that in Sunday School. But we do remember the story about Noah getting drunk and passing out naked in his tent. Love those Bible stories!

Leiter, head of Torah Jews for Decency, admits God promised not to bring another flood to wipe out the planet, but said He “could punish particular areas with a flood.” Leiter also called Manhattan, one of the city’s hardest hit areas, as “one of the national centers of homosexuality.”

But New Jersey, which was even more devastated than New York, doesn’t have marriage equality. So what gives? Was the Lord punishing the Garden State for Snookie?

There’s a joke in their somewhere about an event in which many jews suffered. But for the life of me I can’t remember it.

Oh yeah. That thing. That was punishment too I guess?

Or do the rules change when it is something you oppose?

If God were going after the gays, he would have washed away the Pines and Cherry Grove on Fire Island, and they were much less badly damaged than the straight parts of Fire Island.

@2eo: Oy gevalt! Couldn’t have said it better myself. If almost three millennia of Jewish suffering and their near-total extermination in the Holocaust haven’t convinced this guy that the God of Abraham doesn’t exist (or at the very least is powerless to intervene or callously indifferent), literally nothing will.

The Jews need to dump the Orthodix, let them break off into another religion. Something like 96% of Jews in the U.S. belong to Conservative or Reform branches which perform same sex marriages.

The Orthodox to Jews are like the evangellicals who speak in tongues and hold snakes are to the mainstream Christian Churches.

It is always kind of interesting that Dan Avery will post up every single anti-gay Orthodox rabbi he can find even though the two main branches of the religion endorse same sex marriage….. and yet will miss stories like this.

Not all Jews are smart, this Rabbi proves that! I happen to be a proud Jew, for their accomplishment in the sciences, business and the betterment of the world. However, I am like many Jews… not religious, and the extremes of all religions have killed more people then they save. Please do not condemn all Jews because of this Rabbi. Jews have been in the forefront of the Civil Rights and GLBT movement. We are no different when it comes to equal rights for women, people of color and Social Justice. I myself do not believe in prayer… it is no more then wishful thinking, however when it comes to wishful thinking, I would wish for Peace and peace of mind, for me and my fellow citizens of the world.

@jerry_pritikin: Let us note that the Jewish members of the Supreme Court are pro-equality and the Catholic members are not. The Court will decide whether the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is constitutional this term. Let us hope the Jewish liberal justices prevail. They will need at least one Catholic justice to join in the decision, however.

Now Now Rabbi, let’s not throw stones when it’s a known fact that there are jewish sects that are inbred due to marrying your own sisters and brothers. The gruesome killing of Leiby Kletzky shocked the tight-knit Hasidic community in Borough Park, in part because it is one of the safest sections of the city and because the man under arrest is himself an Orthodox Jew. A day-and-a-half search for the Hasidic boy ended with the discovery of his severed feet inside a bloody freezer at the home of a man who had been spotted with the child on a surveillance video, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press. The rest of the remains were in the trash in another neighborhood. The man who committed the crime was said to be inbred. Other incident; A young hassidic man commits suicide two days after his wedding ceremony. He had been sexually abused by a trusted member of his community–a rabbi. Yes, you love to throw stones at the world from your glass towers. You and the Catholic Church rank high in pedophiles.

According to the story Noah’s ark, God decides to destroy the world because of mankind’s evil deeds not due to same sex marriage like he claims. What book is he reading from? If you believe that lions, tigers and bears all lived confined together for how many days? Yep! Leiter looks like he was there for Noah’s arch and probably smell’s like it to from the looks of it. History tells your people were punished and wondered in the wilderness for forty years instead of forty days, because your arrogant ingrates, self-righteous and think the world owes you, not to mention you turned in your own Jesus because his teaching were hurting your profits. They always claim to be the chosen people like so many other religions, but never say, chosen for what? besides always whining and playing the only victims in history? Interesting how they got stuck on the number 40, 40 years in the wilderness after egypt to reach the land of milk and honey and 40 days in Noah’s ark?

Yes most agree the holocaust was horrific nightmare but why are they the only ones that act like they were the only victims?

Hitler targeted homosexuals, Communists and other political dissidents, most Slavs, Jehovah’s Witnesses, dissidents, some Protestant pastors and Catholic priests, black people, the mentally and physically disabled, and others. The figures include the camps as well as the mass graves in the countryside, killings in the street, organized mass shootings (such as Babi Yar, etc.) and basically, any person singled out for their race, religion, political beliefs, or their sexual orientation.

There are approximately 250 Holocaust museums and centers around the world where you can learn more, as well as extensive information elsewhere on the Internet. Mind you these are estimates and not including all who gave up their lives fighting.

      Jews- 5.9 million
      Soviet POW’s- 3.3 million
      Non-Jewish Poles- 1.8-2 million
Romanis (‘gypsies’)- 220,000- 270,000 (but even the higher figure may be too low)
      Disabled- 200,000 – 250,000
      Homosexuals- 5,000 – 15,000
      Jehovahs Witnesses- 2,500 – 5,000
      French ?
German ? Yes they even killed their own.

Although the exact figure will never be known, here are estimates:
The figure of 11 million people dead is often given but it is completely unclear where this figure comes from, and how it is calculated. It is far too low. One also encounters the range 11-17 million.
6 million of these were Jewish (close to two thirds of Europe’s Jewish population) and about one quarter of these were children under 15.
Up to 270,000 were Roma/Sinti (Gypsies).

So it’s estimated that about 17 million were killed in total and about 6 million were Jews which leaves 11 million others that you never hear bitch, moan and groan and still use it to manipulate.

Sorry Rabbi, it’s obvious you don’t have a full deck of cards.

People always think “the other guy” deserves God’s punishment. It helps one feel better about themselves.

I wonder how he’d explain why the holocaust occurred? Was his God angry at the Jewish people by allowing it? What a dumbass! These religion addicted people are proof positive that they’re mentally ill.
