San Jose Earthquakes’ Alan Gordon may likely be facing a multi-game suspension after calling Portland Timbers’ midfielder Will Johnson a “faggot” during gameplay last night.
Props to NBC Sports for catching this douchebag in action, because without video proof, there probably wouldn’t have been consequences.
Gordon was later escorted off the field to the locker room (for an unrelated reason), and didn’t get to see the incredible game-winning goal scored by Johnson later in the night.
This is the second time gay slurs have been directed at Johnson on the filed (most likely because his teammates can’t handle his sexiness), the first time resulted in a three-game suspension for Seattle Sounders’ Marc Burch.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Gordon responded to the incident, issuing a half-assed apology that’ll make you yawn:
“I sincerely apologize for what I said in our game tonight. Although I said it in the heat of the moment, that language has no place in our game. That is not my character, but there is still no excuse for saying what I said. I made a mistake and I accept full responsibility for my actions.”
If tossing “faggot” around is not in your character, why did you say it in the first place?
