On the off chance that Queerty’s New York bureau gets blown away by Hurricane Irene, we wanted to be sure we went out on a high note. And what better note than this windswept live version of Grace Jones’ “Hurricane”?
Ladies and Gentlemen, Miss Grace Jones…
I can’t stand this irrelevant bitch. In 30+ years of a career she has never even had a #1 song (even in the day-and-age before YouTube and illegal downloading!). Her music is lame, her style is pointless, she’s also a never-was. She didn’t retire in the 90s because she wanted to, she retired because nobody gave a shit about her anymore. Gaga wipes the floor with this bitch. Quality of the career over the quantity.

Grace Jones never had a huge (Pull up to my Bumper being the biggest) hit because the “industry” had no idea what to do with her often brilliant music. Her music defied genres or any popular sound…IT was just Grace. Lady Gaga took a cue from Grace’s style, but not her unique music…as Lady GaGa sings standard pop tunes.

@ChrisC: You are a complete fool! GAGA and the rest of them gave homage to Grace Jones for paving the way. She may not had a #1 one hit but she is a living legend. You need to recognize you worthless Piece of non existence how dare you!

Hey ChrisC, why dont you take a gander at the 80′s Grace videos. Maybe you’d get an idea of what an innovator might be and not some dumb cum dumpster like Gaga that had the audacity to wear a dress made out of meat when people cant afford to feed their families.

Grrrrraaaaaaaaaccccce! Someone should lock Grace and Gaga together in a room with only a keyboard and a microphone. I’m thinking that by about day three, after severe dehydration sets in, Grace would finally get over herself (at least temporarily,) and agree to record a few duets with Gaga. Sign up a few genius song writers and producers and PRESTO: Biggest album ever, multiple Grammys, tears and hugs all ’round. Someone needs to get on this and be quick about it.

@ChrisC: “…she has never even had a #1 song…”
I bet you think McDonalds is the best restaurant in the world.

@hf2hvit:
Once again, some smug asshole — despite the obvious and self-evident facts — takes the moronic 10% opinion and ascribes it to all Americans.
Go ahead, hf2hvit, count ‘em. Of 20 comments, 2 are anti-Grace. But I suppose you’ll consider me “egocentric” because I can perform simple math.

@John: you can’t say Gaga had the “audacity” to wear a meat dress when families can’t afford the feed their families if that’s the case you need to get mad at every celebrity going to award shows with literally millions of dollars worth of dresses and jewelry in some cases…fuck a meat dress made out of a family pack of meat from Kroger that cost 15 dollars

HERES YOUR #1 SONG:
Love on Top of Love (Killer Kiss)” is the first single from Grace Jones’ album Bulletproof Heart. It was produced by C+C Music Factory’s David Cole and Robert Clivilles.[1] The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot Club Dance Play chart in December 1989

I’m American and I <3 (that's a heart) Grace Jones! She has an amazing voice and has raw talent.
Does anyone know where her performance was that the video clip is from?
I have relatives who are older who remember Grace back when she was starting out as a model and even they like her music.
Lady Caca is a phony and loves to mimic actual artists and musicians who were and always will be original and talented unlike Caca.
Grace Jones on Lady Caca:
“I really don’t think of her at all. I go about my business,” Grace told the UK’s Guardian newspaper after the former Studio 54 star and one-time Andy Warhol muse was asked what she thought of the modern day headline grabbing pop singer.
The singer/model/actress and all around legend told the newspaper that the reports were true – Gaga had asked to collaborate with her — but Grace turned Gaga down.
“Yes, she did, but I said no,” Grace said. “I’d just prefer to work with someone who is more original and someone who is not copying me, actually.”
Grace, who has been hitting the stage across Europe recently in a host of eye-catching, outlandish stage outfits, was asked if she thinks Gaga borrowed style ideas from the icon, something the legend didn’t say no to.
“Well, you know, I’ve seen some things she’s worn that I’ve worn, and that does kind of piss me off,” she told the newspaper.
Grace, who is in her 60’s and was once a Bond girl, added that she likely wouldn’t be checking Gaga out in concert.
“I wouldn’t go to see her,” she said.

The most fervant Gaga fans were probably in utero when GraceJones was in her heyday. If you’re trying to compare them, you need to actually know about Jones’ music and the era in which she gained her int’l fanbase.
On a more positive note, the Adam Lambert fans are staying mum during this ‘dueling diva’ match.
Only history will tell if Gaga remains an icon for decades. Too soon to tell.

Grace Jones is a groundbreaking icon. Her music was way ahead of it’s time and she shouldn’t be disrespected. Gaga’s great, too, but she hasn’t undergone the test of time. Why must these talented women be pitted against each other, anyway? They’re both important additions to the gay experience and major allies. Save your snarky comments for enemies, like Michelle Bachman, Victoria Jackson and the Rick Perry.

@ChrisC:
Yah, nobody bought a Van Gogh before he died, either. Fuck number one hits. They’re all lowest common denominator crap. Grace Jones is superb and excited a generation of gay men. Lady Gaga is a dirivative imitator. I appreciate her activism, but her act is never more than reminiscent of another, usually better, artist’s material.

Thank you for this post. The young people NEED to know about Grace Jones.
