We had a journalism teacher tell us once not to put ourselves in the way of the story. It’s advice gay teen Devon Yaffe doesn’t seem to need—for his senior project he interviewed ten gay men ages 15-82, about their life experiences and how they traversed the tough waters of coming out. The video’s simple, straightfoward nature allows Yaffe’s subjects to talk for themselves—and they speak volumes.
“I told myself that I had to choose a topic that I would be most compelled to work on during the entire fall semesterl,” Yaffe explains. “I wanted to take this beyond high school and into the world.”
Job well done.

Congratulations, Devon, on this awesome project. The perspectives of those interviewed are wonderfully captured and highlight the progress over the past six plus decades. Thank you for this intergenerational gift!
Queerty readers: Do not be put off by the length of this video. It is absolutely worth viewing!!

Excellent, Devon. I’m so proud of your work. This is something I’ve wanted to do for decades. Remember you as a student in the 5th grade. Paul and I just celebrated our 22nd anniversary.
