WATCH: VT Innkeepers Sued For Discriminating Against Lesbian Couple Appear In ME Anti-Gay Marriage Ad

Jim and Mary O’Reilly were sued by Ming and Kate Linsley after the latter tried to hold their wedding reception at the former’s Widlflower Inn. The O’Reilleys were ordered to pay a $10,000 fine to the Vermont Human Rights Commission and set aside $20,000 in a charitable trust.

“A lesbian couple sued us for not supporting their gay wedding because of our Christian beliefs,” says Jim. “We had to pay $30,000 and can no longer host any weddings at our inn.”

However, according to their lawyer, the O’Reilleys didn’t have a problem hosting the reception, but rather it was a “misunderstanding” on the part of an employee and the O’Reilleys had planned to put an end to hosting weddings and receptions anyway. But that part seems to have been conveniently left on the cutting room floor.
