Unlikely. Though the Parliament just passed a final bill to legalize same-sex marriage, President Anibal Cavaco Silva (pictured), a Roman Catholic and member of the Social Democratic Party, has already declared his opposition. All the Portoguese Parliament needs to do is pass the law again by a simple majority. Perhaps the President will sign the bill so that this issue won’t be talked about a lot during the Popes’s visit in the coming months.
